Re: The Roar 93.5/99.1 is done... for real this time

From RadioInsight. "The UK based Podcast Radio Network has launched on Beasley Media Group properties in four markets. What a waste.... So many things they could of done.... Motown, oldies, smooth jazz.... Oh well. Podcasts on the radio -- considering that people listen to them over the internet at...

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10

Some PBS stations still carried that instructional programming for in-class usage into the '90s (IIRC WGTE 30 in Toledo was one of them, while WTVS 56 had settled into a daytime mixture of kids' shows and lifestyle/how-to programs by then. I think the advent of home video largely put an end to the ...

Re: Byron Allen wants to buy ABC O&Os

Hopefully, Nexstar will buy ABC. Considering that Nexstar owns stations affiliated with each of the Big 4, plus The CW and other networks and indies, it would cause a cataclysmic change in television broadcasting, as it would mean loads of stations flipping to ABC, as well as stations being sold of...

Re: Morgan Murphy Media Acquiring Northern Michigan TV/Radio Combo

Wow. I didn't think all those stations would amount to $12 million... WBKB having all of the Big Four helps bring that price up. I wonder if the price includes studios, offices, and towers If you really want to see a stacked deck, check out Victoria, Texas, where Morgan Murphy owns not only the big...

All I see is a greedy satellite provider versus a greedy media provider. A pox on both your houses.
The thing is both sides expect viewers to pick a side, when in reality there's nothing much we can do but sit back and watch while both sides argue and/or negotiate.

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10

...WMSB was pathetic - like all "educational television." Panel discussions of a bunch of professors. A professor sitting in front of a bookcase and droning on about some obscure topic. An occasional obscure public domain movie... Educational TV "back in the day" was before my time, but I pictured ...

Re: WEYI hubbing weather from WWMT?

I get the feeling anyone can be a meteorologist for a Sinclair station anyway. All you have to do is deny the science and blame the LGBTQ+ community for any bad weather that pops up. I still remember at least a couple of instances last year in which the weather girls mentioned that they would be pa...

At what point does Sinclair completely throw in the towel and just either go full TND or sign the outsourcing agreement with 5 or 12.
Personally, Sinclair would rather replace news with TND, than to outsource to one of their competitors.

Re: Detroit Airplay of Alice Cooper's New Album

That point was driven home to me in 1997 when very commercially accessible albums were released by Paul McCartney ( Flaming Pie ) and Elton John ( The Big Picture ), but got almost no airplay. In the case of Elton's "The Big Picture", track "Something About the Way You Look Tonight" would hit #1 wo...

This thread has became off topic and completely off the rails. Time to end this one. That is, of course, unless someone has anything valid to add to the actual topic of the thread.
Seconded; though it's been a while since someone contributed to the "Depository".

Re: Detroit 50 - REBRANDED LOGO

So bland and pathetic. A modernization of the Cox logo would have been ideal. Even the Field logo wasn't bad. Personally I would bring back the Field era logo -- apart from finagling the "TV screen" portion to look more modern, that logo looks timeless. Maybe have the "Detroit 50" logo done in the ...

On the fabulous Ron Cameron show today, he said something was going on with Sima, but he wouldn't elaborate. Could he be in negotiations to buy 910?
Does Detroit need another station to carry Brother Stair's old tapes 24/7?

Probably to either 38.2 or 38.5 since they drop programming on both those channels in the last few months.
Or they could move MNTV programming to late nights after The CW finished for the evening -- all MNTV is these days is two hours of off-network reruns a night.

Re: WADL 38.5 is gone

I noticed Azteca is gone, too. I guess the U.S. version of Azteca (which I believe only licensed the name of the Mexico-based Azteca) went belly up and ceased operation. Azteca America ended operations at the end of 2022. While it was set up to have been a competitor to Univision and Telemundo, it ...

Re: Northern Michigan dual TV channel ID

The question I want answer is why does WTOM-TV have its tower in such a stupid location? Well, if memory serves correctly, the Black Bear (strip club) was very nearby the WTOM-TV studios back in the 60/70's... :blink I'd guess both entities no longer exist. WTOM still exists, but in the digital era...
