Looks like 3 percent of the workforce is getting cut.

Westwood One News going silent end of August
An ominous sign for Cumulus employees you would have to think.

Re: April Radio Ratings
Ben, You may have a point. A similar point is that A/C listeners lean left but they aren't rabid partisans. If you are on DVD touting the lockdown to an audience that stands an infinitesimal chance of dying from the disease...that's a tough sell. You closed the businesses those moms work at and you ...

April Radio Ratings

Suburban women tuned out entirely. It doesn't look like they switched to WWJ or WJR much although both stations had great books. I think they stopped listening to the radio. WDVD and The Breeze crash to the bottom of the pack.

Cumulus Quarterly Earnings
Hard to imagine they won't lose $25 million in Q2. They lost $7 million in Q1 with a presidential primary and the Super Bowl. The country wasn't really affected by COVID-19 for January or February. Things will not be as favorable April to June. Towns around me are canceling all of their summer event...

Re: MORE "EXIT"COM indefinite Layoffs
When does somebody point out the obvious on-air that if businesses aren't allowed to reopen the industry will die. Same with TV. Isn't there any survival instinct?

Who is going through the commercial logs at Cumulus
Listened to 93.1 last night, 6 PM hour. Long commercial breaks with the same Geico or Scott's ad running in the same stop set. Heard a Covid.gov PSA next to a CDC covid PSA. Small things but it makes me think no one is minding the shop at the Fisher Building.

Alpha Media Beginning Layoffs
I would assume WSGW was safe for now. The other stations could be more iffy. Has anyone heard of layoffs among their Saginaw cluster?

They're going to save $150 million by cutting executive salaries and 401(k) matches? That doesn't seem likely...

Groupon revenue down 49%. Hard to imagine Detroit radio stations are doing better. I would guess significantly worse, 60-70%.

Re: WANTED: Cheap Replacement For Chuck Edwards
I saw a LinkedIn post from a grad fresh out of the University of Oklahoma saying she got hired for an on-camera gig in Dallas. Every media outlet is looking for cheap replacements for legacy talent.

I don't think they will go back into bankruptcy. I just expect them to trim the expensive legacy talent that survived the first bankruptcy.
And when you lose 40-75 percent of your revenue, all liabilities become debt. Hence the furloughs.

They have $1.3 billion in debt. That's against a much smaller operational footprint than in the past and revenues have been cut in half from Covid. The expensive talent who survived 2018 will be on the chopping block real soon.

Re: Covid 19 Media Layoffs Begin - Entercom
Cumulus still has a heavy debt load. It isn't what it once was but they weren't dealing with a cratering of their revenues the last time they went into bankruptcy either.
