Re: SHortwave pirate stations
Yeah, seriously. The majority of pirates in the US stay on the 43 and 48 Meter bands, and stay away from government and emergency frequencies. Most also are fairly clean in their operating and content. Some are rebels though and play unedited versions of songs... Euro pirates have a more wild streak...

Re: SHortwave pirate stations
Last night was incredible on 43 meter band. The entire weekend was, for that matter. I logged my first Euro pirate in years and there were a lot of stations on in general. Wolverine Radio was on with a full-scale signal on my DX400 sitting on the kitchen table while making dinner. I didn't even have...

Re: Spooky Story About ARP In Owosso
Very interesting story... I used to ride my bike 20 miles from west Flint to Owosso a few times a month to hang out there. The second shift supervisor was even kind enough to drive me back home as he lived but a mile from me. I actually learned to operate the presses (at age 7!) and every now and th...

This is probably a list of songs I've deleted from my record collection in a violent manner!

Indespensible SW resource - HF Underground
HFU = High Frequency Underground. If it's on the bands, it's logged on HFU forums first... pirates, utilities, SWBC, 2-way... even AM, TV and FM DX. It's changed my shortwave listening hobby drastically, from what I log myself to getting QSL cards. I *so* wish I had access to something like this yea...

Re: A great explanation of "Tropo"
I had a station called The River stop my scan in Flint on 96.7 the other day... it was in Minnesota, coming in like I was looking at the tower! I noticed it making a short grocery run, and it was still booming in when I drove home.

Re: Online shortwave radios
I had the same issue, even worse... if no tubes, it's not a radio. But I remember well in my younger days, wishing I could sit at a radio far away, and this is it. I still have too many radios, and I still use them. This just helps streamline the search a lot. You can see the signals on the display ...

Online shortwave radios
This site shows all the "KiwiSDR" receivers across the globe. Some are better than others in terms of local noise and reception. But you can find a software defined radio online on pretty much every continent. I find this fascinating. Click on a marker and it will pop p a box describing the receiver...

Re: SHortwave pirate stations
There is one pirate who runs C-QuAM mode from time to time, one of the old pirate stations of the 80's, X-FM. I logged him in mono a few days back, and he was the best sounding thing on the dial. Very professional production and a great selection of lost songs. Frankly, these pirates operate better ...

Re: SHortwave pirate stations
These stations operate mainly in 43 meters. 6500 to 7000 kHz. Main channel is 6925kHz, with secondary 6950. Ops use several frequencies in this band, and I've found pirates in practically every band up to 30 MHz. Extended AM band as well.
