Re: Strangest Radio Signals
In reading through the comments, I stumbled upon this: http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/ I wasn't aware that such an SDR existed. I knew there were online tuners but this one allows multiple users at once to tune to different stations. That's one of the early web SDRs, been around for a few years....

Re: Solar Cycle 25
I guess I will have to rely on seasonal sporadic E-layer propagation for any 10, 12 and 15 M radio contacts for a long time. :D Six meters is even more fun when it opens up. Should be starting to see the daily openings soon along with AM tropo on 6 and 2m. 12m to me seems like kind of an "orphan" b...

Re: Solar Cycle 25
Despite my optimistic screen ID, we are still, and will for some time, be in Solar Minimum. There are a few new sunspots bearing Cycle 25 magnetic orientation, but there are still some overlapping Cycle 24 hoidouts. This has been the case for some months. I'd suggest getting info on solar activity f...

Re: TV internet precursor
Well that is certainly interesting. Didn't think that was technologically possible back then. Some of this could be done by dialup, simply using a subscriber's telephone line (back when everybody had landline). Possible there may have been some cable equipment capable of returning phone-grade audio...

Re: Classic commercials WWJ TV 1977
For ages, it was de rigueur that commercials had to begin with a fade up, and end with a fade out, usually 15 frames (1/2 second), shorter if the copy was "fat." Practice was also that a :30 was usually actually 29 sec:20 frames, providing a small bit of leeway and a "breath" between spots within a ...

Re: Speaking Of Strongest Signals-Just Logged WA1HLR
Back when I was young man , I had a couple of transmitters that ran "Controlled carrier" modulation on AM. the output power would bounce up and down a lot when you modulated with voice. . Regular plate modulated A M would just wiggle the output meter , a bit, on modulation. One could immediately te...

Re: Columbus' radio sucks as bad as Toledo's
Columbus is about 125 miles from Cleveland; about 100 mi. from Cincinnati. That doesn't seem like "proximity" for FM listening.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:53 pm[...] Proximity to Cleveland and Cincinnati can be credited for that.

New add at WDIV, it seems
From Deadline Detroit:
"TV newsman Grant Hermes' big career jump to WDIV starts with a 1,000-mile drive to Detroit that he and fiance Becca Slaughter never will forget."

Re: RePack Phase 8 started
I miss analog pictures. They would reveal so much about the underlying problem. Now one can only guess. True, that, in analog, some reception problems like "snow," electrical noise, interference and multipath (ghosting) were easier to visually troubleshoot ("turn it a lttle more to the left, stick ...

Re: TV internet precursor
The original post refers to over-the-air, not cable, delivery of information. The "Teletext" system, first used in the UK, was later tried out for a short time in the U.S. in the 1970s. Text-based pages of Information and rudimentary shapes were transmitted by broadcast stations. The information was...

In an effort to assist their viewers, WHNE today (4/16) published an antenna guide and map on its Facebook Page ANTENNA LIST FROM WHNE*-- This antenna list has various antennas that we are suggesting for these different zones (on the map) for receiving Low VHF signal channel 3 from WHNE. YouTube videos (and others, like Vimeo) also have, within their lower-frame toolbar, a speaker icon, which has a slider to drag for changing level or muting while playing. Depending on what version of iOS or iPadOS you're using, a Control Center with a customizable cluster of onscreen adjustments fo...
