Re: Classic commercials WWJ TV 1977

I'm reminded of how much black there was between commercial events back in the day. A good one or two seconds. These days transitions are flash cut frame-to-frame. The advent of digital servers made it possible to eliminate any pause between one spot and the next. The idea is to run the break in co...

Re: WTVG 13 NBC News Noon Report (9/18/1981)

Yep, I was in 136 Huron back in the early 70's as a kid, and the giant radio studios of WSPD had already left Huron Street and moved to "more modern" aka much smaller studios (no live bands or studio audience seating) Superior Street around 1962, so it was only TV studios there at the time, and bac...

Re: WTVG 13 NBC News Noon Report (9/18/1981)

Watching this again, I suppose this was when the station was on Huron St in the "Broadcast Building". I almost wanted to visit inside the building but didn't want to disturb the current tenants of it.

Re: WTVG 13 NBC News Noon Report (9/18/1981)

Gordon Ward is a good newsman, anchor, and local personality. He taught Diane Larson how to run the Noon news when she was a hottie with a perm fresh out of college. Prior to the Noon report, Gordon Ward was co-anchor of the evening WSPD-TV 'Venner-Ward' report which was true old-school TV in 1969 ...

Re: Channel-Sharing, Canadian Style

I wish the CRTC would treat subchannels as if they were part of the primary station. I would really like to see some Canadian diginets! Maybe CBC could have a Canadian reruns diginet (akin to Me TV, but Canadian). And maybe we could enjoy some SCTV (take off hoser!) Alas, Canadian cord cutters have...

WTVG 13 NBC News Noon Report (9/18/1981)

Thought I'd share this rare recording of WTVG's noon newscast from almost 40 years ago. Amazing what they could get from having one anchor for the entire thing.

Some large, English speaking cities without many English channels OTA include:

St. Johns, NL
London, ON
Halifax, NS
Saskatoon, SK
Edmonton, AB
I feel sorry for these cities being gimped out like that.

Re: Channel-Sharing, Canadian Style

If I remember correctly, Global's signal *is* nulled towards Detroit, and yes, it is the most difficult Canadian station for me to pick up, because of that. Don't' fret if you don't receive it, because I often have difficulty tuning in, too! I used to get ch. 22 back in the analog days once in a wh...

Re: The media wants you to panic

Turn off all the news. That’s what I did. I’m not falling for their hype. And if you need news, stick to the newspapers -- I've been generally avoiding TV news long before the coronavirus, and radio for as long as I can remember. Glad to see a viable use for newspapers in this current climate.

Sad to see them go, they already managed to make it to my area a decade ago (I've been to their "Sleep Shop" near me).

It was carried in Winnipeg for years in the 80s.
Winnipeg also had WJBK and WXYZ too, and in the mid 90's during the network swapping, WTOL from Toledo also showed up!

Speaking of early cable, I'm reminded I have two playlists filled of classic cable TV ranging from the 70's to the 90's. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA06D472C11903494 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTnbwiCw-mMRDWUfHPSJKZgX2JHxpDU1R https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTnbwiCw-m...

Re: Antenna TV gone?

WMYD-TV 20 Detroit and it's subchannels are only available on Buckeye Broadband on the Michigan side of the border, namely Bedford township. Yep, Bedford Township is practically the furthest Buckeye can offer the Detroit channels these days (and I'm about a half mile from the state line). WTVS can ...
