Re: Superbowl Halftime Show

I think the real issue is that the Superbowl halftime show has become an event within an event. It's a completely separate element that has taken on a life of its own over the years, having no relevance to the game itself. In many respects the halftime show, along with the goofy commercials, have ec...

Re: How to fix CNN

I too wish CNN would go back to it's roots in regards to programming. Bring back non-political shows to mix in with national and world news. I actually think they would benefit from a partnership with CBS News. I think it would be great to have Anderson Cooper anchor the Evening News on CBS and the...

Re: Superbowl Halftime Show

Apparently Fox knew exactly what they were doing. So far the youtube video of halftime already has 107,000,000 views. Last year's Maroon 5 halftime? 14,000.000. The like/dislike ratio is also 90/10 vs 10/90 for these 2 videos. Bottom line is that last year's show as a complete disaster and this yea...

Re: Superbowl Halftime Show

I remember how people went nuts over Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" in the 2004 Superbowl halftime show. That was tame compared to this. Fox, in light of the backlash against CBS over the Jackson/Timberlake incident, promised a more family-friendly halftime show the next year. They booked Pa...

Re: Should we get rid of the word 'pet'?

This comes from the people who think animals should not be domesticated. They would rather see them euthanized or left to starve in the wild than have them adopted out to loving homes. PETA is off the rails.

Re: WILX new subchannels

Is ION in high-definition? In any event, it's good to hear that ION is once again available in the Lansing area over-the-air. (I presume WZPX is now difficult to pick up off-air in the Lansing area following its move to extreme western Barry County.) Ion is 480 on WILX. I can still get WZPX over th...

Re: Fm translators

Been a while since anyone's mentioned anything about this. A query of the FCC database indicates there are no currently pending FM translator applications related to Lansing. Only active app appears to be an FM translator for WJML in Petoskey. Wonder if the applications were either withdrawn or wipe...

Re: TMZ

TMZ was supposedly the first outlet to break the story of Kobe Bryant's chopper crash. The local authorities did not seem pleased, as TMZ reported the details before any official confirmation of those on-board. There's also a question as to whether Kobe's wife and family had been otherwise informed ...

Re: An Axe to Grind

Student’s Axe body spray ‘prank’ causes evacuation of Florida school bus PARRISH, Fla. – It wasn’t the “Axe effect” the body spray company intended when a Florida middle school student’s pungent mist prompted a school bus evacuation Monday. The bus was carrying students from Buffalo Creek Middle Sc...

Not the best reason to give 911 a ring. I'm guessing when the cops arrived she didn't care for their proposal.

Re: Jim Lehrer passes at 85

Jim was one of the last of the old guard. A traditional journalist who understood his craft and did it extremely well. His nine rules of journalism said it all, especially #9 on the list:

I am not in the entertainment business.

His insight will be missed. May he rest in peace.
