Re: Jeopardy

WDIV showed the Wednesday episode on Thursday before the regularly scheduled episode. Surprisingly, they left the part in about Alex talking about it being "Christmas Eve" :hat Not surprising at all. Dec 24 was the original scheduled air date, which any Jeopardy follower already knew. Syndicated sh...

Re: Art Van is out of money and is liquidating and closing all stores

Which agency handled Highland Appliance back in their heyday? If they're still around, they would be ideal for a furniture chain. Doner (then known as W.B. Doner) was Highland's ad agency. Besides local clientele, Doner at that time had a large number of retail store clients in the U.S., and some i...

Re: Most Annoying Commercials

"I LOVE IT!" The pre and post Christmas saturation buy of the GMC spot with the terminally cute couple with more money than brains. She buys him some trinket "One for you, one for me." He's bought them his-and-hers GMCs- a Pickup and an SUV. She claims "his" pickup shouting twice "I Love It." He now...

FCC sets $35 fee for Amateur applications

From ARRL: In a Report and Order (R&O), released on December 29, the FCC scaled back to $35 [from original $50 proposal] the fee for a new license application, a special temporary authority (STA) request, a rule waiver request, a license renewal application, and a vanity call sign application. All f...

Re: Best setup for reliable radio communications over 30 or 60 miles?

My high school neighbor at WB8APT, "WB8 Another Powerful Transmitter, running 10 watts QRP", built a low power transmitter, and put a decent ground wave 8 blocks away on 40 meters with a Magnavox AM/SW Portable. Unless you're connected to a dummy load, ten watts on any HF or VHF band will get you o...

Re: Best setup for reliable radio communications over 30 or 60 miles?

...I talked about police and fire in the hills and hollers of Appalachia being on VHF. Before they were there, they were all on the low bands. 38-42 MHz. Think of the big long whip on Andy and Barney's cruiser. And they would talk hundreds of miles. Many of the counties and the state was all on the...

Re: WMYD will switchover to ATSC 3.0 today at 10AM EST, 12/07.

Apparently TV executives haven't heard of Verizon, AT&T nor T-Mobile. There is nothing that prevents them from implementing a multicast distribution over their cellular IP networks. These people are throwing anything at the wall to see what sticks before they end up having to give up more spectrum ...

Re: Best setup for reliable radio communications over 30 or 60 miles?

I also would not recommend the 60M band (5MHz). Its five channels are shared with US government and military users who at any time can declare primacy and run any users off. It's also a decent DX band at night, which could be a problem for doing short-range comms. As mentioned, the 40 and 75M ham ba...

Re: Where's Art Bell When You Need Him?

There was prior damage to the mesh screen that made up the parabolic reflector, both from age and from recent years' hurricanes. There was already talk of decommissioning the site because of H*** repair costs. The supports and suspension cabling for the focal point antenna array were seen to be dete...

Re: WTVS Channel 56.5

Already showing some programming right now. It’s a kids channel, so it got whacked just like 56.2 and that god awful TBD on 50.4 and that country crap channel on 50.5. If you take a look at the website and view the (short) video there, you will discover that It's not a "kids channel." MLC is set up...

I would love to permanently hide the persistent "Ron Cameron" thread, which seems to be forever pinned to the top of the Metro Detroit/SE Mich Forum. It's a discussion over a person not about local broadcasting. If I can't hide it, make it its own forum or move it to to a more appropriate place. Tha...

FAVE TV has launched as of December 14 across the CBS Owned and Operated stations group. It is only available over the air (ch. 62.4), with a collection of ViacomCBS content like Paramount movies and off-cable programming. BTW, the name is similar to that of a religious broadcaster/website, but not ...
