FM Tropo Sat 8/12
Solid copy in Detroit this morning (Sat 8/12) of 90.3 WCLV Cleveland. Nothing outstanding but for the radio being a low-end table "stereo" with a short wire antenna, on which I usually have to strain to copy locals WEMU and WHFR at my location, Going to tune around some more, also check 2M ham band ...

Re: ATSC 3.0 to analog TV converter box
There'd be a lot of hoops to jump thru, what with cables and adaptors and converters to connect in order to display ATSC 3.0 (aka "NextGen TV") HD content on a vintage set. None of the technical features of 3.0 will be available for you to see or hear. Unless you're using that 1993 TV as some sort o...

Re: Well this is an obscure-looking FM tuner
I meant the legality of piping in a commercial FM station into your phone system. Why would that be illegal? As a former GM, I would welcome that. I remember ASCAP, BMI, SESAC at one time going after places, as their license to broadcasters didn't include public address (restaurants, waiting rooms,...

Re: WWJ 950 broadcasting at reduced power?
Just a guess, but when WWJ is at reduced power, the news anchors probably have to monitor in program mode, as opposed to "off air" They would not be monitoring "off air," it would drive them crazy. The 950AM signal heard at home or in-car is delayed 7 or more seconds from "real time." Monitoring th...

Re: WWJ 950 broadcasting at reduced power?
Audacy should sell WXYT to Relevant Radio, and use part of the money to put an AUX back at the 8 Mile site. Audacity does not own the 8 Mile site (American Tower). They'd have to spend a chunk of $ to outfit any kind of AM facility on that corner, if they were allowed to. They're not going to do th...

C2CAM back on CKLW?
So, 3 years ago I noted here that Coast to Coast AM had been dropped by CKLW. Very recently, I tuned by AM800 around 1 am, and noticed, surprisingly, that I could actually hear the TOH Canadian Press newscast at a "normal" audio level, riding on a reasonably strong signal, not down in the noice. The...

Re: Must See 5G TV
Unless they're watching monitors showing an in-house video feed, people in the stadium can't see or hear "real time" live gamecasting like they used to, when you could sit in the bleachers and have Ernie in your ear with a pocket radio. Any OTA broadcast signal, whether video delivered in ATSC digit...

Re: WWJ news writers
As a news reader, Tony doesn't do a bad job, but he's nothing special. I agree that the Troy faux pas falls on the script writer. Is Ortiz the only WWJ "anchor" who also records and reads commercial copy that runs through the day? Clothing store, weight loss plans etc.? That's always seemed tacky t...

Re: WWJ distorted audio
I've voiced complaints about 'J's audio in past months.
The console mike usually (to me) sounds very fringe-y and quantized, like it's been through too many sample rate conversions; often sounds like early ISDN. The non-live spots and feeds often sound a lot better and cleaner than the live host.

Bell Broadcasting's WCHB, which occupied 1440 for many years, originated from there as well. It vied for the R&B audience with WJLB, which then was on 1400.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 6:42 pmStudios are where WJZZ used to be, on the boulevard. Haven't been by there in awhile.

Re: Most Annoying Commercials
Ok, we get it. Please, Lord, make them pull the "Winner Winner Breakup Dinner" spot and its variations out of the rotation of repetitive casino and gambling site ads. That, along with Kevin Hart and the grating-voiced "King of Live Dealers" girl. Makes me long for a return of Draft Kings' Jessie "Ma...

Re: Demond Fernandez joins WDIV-Local 4 News team as anchor, reporter
If you want a good laugh, and see how well the digital media team at Loco4 keeps up with things, check out the "Meet the Local4 Team" page at the ClickOn site (match the name to the face?). https://www.clickondetroit.com/team/ Demond Fernandez hasn't earned his spot on the website yet, apparently.
