Re: 102.5 trades in Reality for R&B

They need to fix their audio on the FM if they expect anybody to listen to it. Very low modulation and not in stereo. The AM sounded pretty good when I tuned it in yesterday, but it's been off the air more than on in the past few weeks.

Re: 1680 WPRR AM

I hear 1680 is back on the air today, tuned in just after 12 noon, expecting to hear Thom Hartman, but all I got was urban music on both the AM and the FM translator.

Re: Curious about this board's demographics

I have worked in and been involved in communications and radio since I was a 14 year old kid in 1966. Still plugging away on the radio every day. Being on the air is the 2nd most enjoyable thing I've ever done. I will let your imagination decide what the 1st most enjoyable thing might be.

Re: 1680 WPRR AM.ve

1680 has been on and off the air quite a bit lately. I don't know if they are having transmitter issues or what the problem might be. Usually the translator(s) have still been on the air while the AM is off the air. I did notice that 1680 was off the air today, but the past 2 weeks I've been at the ...

Re: GVSU files a $50,000 deal to buy 95.3 translator from Goodrich Radio.

Grand Valley only bought the 95.3 translator. I have no idea if Mr. Goodrich is selling off any of his other properties. I'm guessing his 102.5 translator, might be of interest to someone else. (it's been transmitting nothing but dead air again for the past several weeks.) The 1680 AM frequency is b...

Re: “White Lies, Blue Eyes”

Not only do I remember White Lies, Blue Eyes, I played it on the air as a current hit in 1971 and still play it on the air today. Along with Willpower Weak, Temptation Strong. Also played the Grin song White Lies on the air as a current in 1972 (Top 10 in Grand Rapids) and still play that today too.

Re: Best sounding radio station of all time

The Big 8 had great audio for an AM station. Actually sounded better than some of the FM's I hear these days. The Big 8 never put much of a signal into the Grand Rapids area, so I am kind of partial to WLS circa 1968-70 as the best station I ever listened to. Clark Weber, Art Roberts, Lujack, Chuck ...

MW, you usually put a link to the ratings so the rest of us can see the numbers you are referring to. Any chance this time?

WFUR 102.9 off air

I've noticed WFUR-FM 102.9 has been off the air the past couple of days. I'm guessing it has something to do with their impending sale. Interesting to hear what comes in on 102.9 while FUR is off the air.

Re: New GR Nielsen Audio ratings (March 2020): WBFX falls to all-time record low

Switching WOOD-FM to 101.3 would defeat the purpose of WOOD-FM being on 106.9. WOOD made the move to simulcast with the Muskegon station to get better coverage in Ottawa county and the lake shore. When WOOD-AM went to 20,000 watts, but directional north 24/7 is severly crippled their coverage area i...

Re: Former WLAV & WKLQ PD Dead From Covid 19

I agree, we probably shouldn't be trashing a dead guy. Whether he was a good programmer or bad programmer really makes no difference now. I never met Darrin, never worked with him, nor ever listened much to his stations. I've worked with great guys who were lousy program directors. I've worked with ...

Re: Regarding Steve McGowan

Steve McGowan was my very first role model in radio. I met him in 1966 when he was working at WERX. I was only 14 years old at the time. Steve let me do some music research for him and even let me compile the end of the year Top 100 for WERX which aired on December 31, 1966. In early 1967 he was hir...

Re: WLCO Lapeer, off the air

When WYGR first went on the air as WERX in 1964 they were a 500 watt day timer. Early in 1965 WCKY complained to the FCC that WERX was interfering with their signal in Ohio. At that time the WERX license was changed to 250 watts during critical hours.
