Re: E-Skip Audio Bandscan (7/20)

Great. I wish I would have known about that. What radio were you using? At what time of the day did it begin and end? Personally, I used my Grundig G8 portable just in my bedroom. The opening was about 2pm-6pm, give or take. Most of the opening, the MUF was well into and beyond the weather radio ba...

E-Skip Audio Bandscan (7/20)

With yesterday's (7/20) big Es opening throughout the Midwest and beyond reaching MUFs of 170 and lasting for more than three hours, I decided I would document the conditions by recording a spin through the FM band from 87.75 up to 107.9. Listen to the 21-minute Es scan here Because of the fact I've...

Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength

On a side note, the Freedom Radio FM translator in Manistee has been running an open carrier for several weeks now. That would be bad enough, but it's also operating on the wrong frequency (it's licensed to run on 91.5, but the open carrier is on its original 91.7; it was bumped to 91.5 by WGCP mov...

Re: July Tropo

90.5 CBHA-FM (CBC Radio One) from Halifax, NS was coming in loudly & clearly in the Birmingham / Royal Oak area this morning!!! No You're quite possibly the only person in all Michigan to log an FM by Sporadic-E this year😣 We had plenty of skip over the weekend. All the Maine and Maritimes skip Sat...

Re: July Tropo

I am getting z92-5 from Kokomo, Indiana, also. I understand tropospheric ducting and e skip, but I would appreciate any and all help on this one! I'd have to say that you're experiencing just plain ol' tropo. Though I imagine that your Z-92.5 is The Castle here in Michigan as opposed to Kokomo if y...

Re: July Tropo

V103 is less common here than Suring, but I'm also quite a bit closer to Chicago and it'll come in very well with the usual Chicago stations. I can't hear Suring at all today. It's all V103 with RDS. I've gotten even the lower power Chicago area stations here quite often. But V103 usually can only m...

Re: July Tropo

Major lake tropo event today, since early morning. Basically synoptic tropo (normal land-based ones in as well, such as Q106), but conditions over the water dominate. In Fremont, all the usual regulars are in at insanely increased strength. V100.7 has completely wiped out local 100.5 and 100.9 with ...

Re: Grand Sable Dunes Bandscans +Audio

That's some pretty incredible DX, using only a portable radio with a whip antenna. Were propagation conditions unusual that day? Conditions that day were dead. But you can't compare conditions over the water with conditions over the land; they're two totally different modes of tropo. In this case, ...

Grand Sable Dunes Bandscans +Audio

Grand Sable Dunes is one of my 20 Lake Superior bandscan sites (two have yet to be added to my website as they are new and these things take time; I JUST got home). It is perhaps the most unique of my 75 sites along the Great Lakes because the 300+ foot dunes block or greatly weaken everything from ...

Re: Irons, MI FM bandscan 6/29/19

I always appreciate a good bandscan or ten :) WQLQ 99.9 MHz was booming into Park Township (near Holland State Park) last weekend. Much stronger signal than any of the eastern Kent County stations (WBFX, WTNR, WLAV), WMRR or WMUS. WQLQ is commonly heard up to Ludington on almost any given day, so Ho...

Re: White Cloud Bandscan

WKLQ and WTNR don't run IBOC as far as I know (unless they turned it back on recently) 94.5 has always run IBOC, though among the weaker signals. I've had 94.3 and 94.7 covered in light IBOC hash for enough years that I can't recall when they turned it on. It's enough to notice it (like 96.1's) but...

Re: White Cloud Bandscan

No photos? I'm disappointed. Ha :razz . White Cloud isn't a real bandscan. Just an offshoot of my home scans. I've finished most of the Lake Huron maps and Lake Michigan coming up next, so soon enough, the scans with their maps and photos will be posted. It's more interesting than White Cloud for s...
