Re: WBKB Partners with UpNorthLive
The Marquette model is unsustainable. There’s simply too many stations competing for too small of an advertising pie. The problem with Alpena getting Traverse City and Cadillac news is that you have to believe viewers on the East Coast care about news from the West side of the state. You tune in to ...

Re: Audrey Dahlgren out?
I’m still waiting for the lawsuit to drop against WLNS, Nexstar. Don’t think she can win, but it’ll be interesting to hear the behind the scenes gossip finally in the open… everything from the bad culture cultivated by WLNS/Nexstar management to Audrey’s “close, personal friendship” with Mel Tucker.

Re: WBKB Partners with UpNorthLive
This feels like Morgan Murphy’s first step toward completely eliminating local newscasts in Alpena. I wonder what the financial arrangement is for Morgan Murphy and Sinclair. I’d bet we see both stations continue cost cutting measures in the vain of “newscast expansion”. Alpena’s newscasts will esse...

Was it a hubbing error? Even so, 10 minutes is a long time for someone to route the right source. Gotta love Nexstar!

Re: Dave Bondy, keeping it false
LOL. The video Bondy posted online with the “exclusive” has now been removed. It appears that he is now trying to cover up his role in pushing this false information. Dave seems to have forgotten the very basic rules of journalism. You have to be skeptical of the information you receive and be able ...

Race to the Bottom
As local stations continue to see massive cuts and layoffs, the heads of these companies continue to be financially incentivized to keep a firm line on cost controls. Latest example is Scripps’ Adam Simpleton: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2024/4/3/scripps-suits-raking-it-in It’s a race to the b...

Meeting the GM is always good. Having the GM be a deciding factor in many of these decisions isn’t.

Re: WUD T-Vee Speling Errers
How about talk with the person who made the error — as opposed to putting them in a nasty-gram email. Maybe make sure there are multiple people that check all graphics prior to broadcast — like the producer, executive producer, and director. These are pretty basic systems that work at most every TV ...

Herm: you do realize that most GMs don’t interview for anything other than department heads and maybe top anchors. Murri is a control freak.

Re: CBS Detroit Job Cuts
I was hopeful about CBS Detroit’s launch. But I continue to be more and more unimpressed. There was an opportunity for them to set a new path. Instead they’ve settled into mediocrity. Are some of the initial bad hires to blame? Perhaps. But I think News Director Paul has failed to lift the station u...

Let’s see how Brad’s passive aggressive emails aimed at shaming newsies into spelling good is going… https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2024/3/28/no-beer-for-you Let’s see if that results into another email diatribe. If it does, you can bet the email will again leak. You know there’s something really...
