Re: WHNE adding more channels
You do all know, that with WTVS having to move from Channel 43 to Channel 20, that WHNE will have to move - in this case to Channel 3, in the winter of 2020? Your cute little antennas won't work at channel 3. You'll need a traditional antenna, with long elements perpendicular to the boom. Or you cou...

Re: CBEF 540
I've always wondered why CBEF's towers were of different heights (the south and west towers were taller than the north and east). It seems sadder that the 540 frequency is idle, as opposed to the array. One wonders if 540 could be diplexed by CKWW on the CKLW array, or, better yet, diplex CKWW on 63...

Re: WKNR 760
In a sense, something like WKNR 760 did happen. CKLW adopted the Boss format, which had a lot in common with WKNR's, and CKLW even hired away some of KNR's air talent (I believe this was in 1965 or 1966). CKLW had the strongest signal throughout the eastern half of the market (except within a mile o...

Re: another WPON update
The Regional mex is WKAM in Goshen, IN. They often have a good signal into SE Michigan before sunset.
This summer, a few months ago, the towers for WPON/WCXI were standing (I mentioned it on the BCB DX logger). I hope the landlord didn't have a change of heart and order them back down.

Re: Country stations on AM from the 60’s and 70’s
Sometime about 1972, 93.9 broke its Big 8 simulcast to go country, still using the CKLW-FM call. Lasted about ten years, but never had a fan base north of the river.

Re: WKNR 760
First, I think WJR would have had little incentive to enter into a four-way battle for the Top-40 market, especially considering the fact that many T40 listeners were literally children. How fondly one remembered WKNR had a lot to do with where you lived. At night, their six-tower array with 5kw ble...

Re: another WPON update
Yeah, Just realized that I had been looking at WMBD's day pattern, instead of the night. Interesting that MBD had a deep null right at FNT, even though MBD was there some twenty years before FNT. Guess WMBD did an upgrade after WFNT was already in place. MBD isn't the only blaster regional in Peoria...

Re: another WPON update
I am curious as to WFNT's NIF is. It doesn't have any strong signals beamed directly at it, but WMBD is a 5kW "senior regional" without any true nulls (and is likely FNT's major source of nighttime QRM). The only station on 1470 with a CP is WTTR in Maryland, which has a nighttime study in its app, ...

Re: another WPON update
I'm wondering if they may be able to increase their nighttime operation power further. Their nighttime pattern will be three towers, nearly all of it beamed north. that 580w night figure may be their limit to WBRN in Big Rapids. However, WBRN, long ago, took out a CP to remove two of their three tow...
