7 & 4 / UpNorth Live's Mark Watkins Retires

After 13.5 years at the stations, meteorologist Mark Watkins was rather choked up this morning as he announced today that he was retiring and today would be his last day.

Heather Bricka will take his place on the stations' morning show.

Happy Retirement, Mark!

Re: Guess The Device

Don't matter how many people you pack into it, it's a sound mirror. They were readily used in WWI to detect airplane/zeppelin engines over the English Channel. Prior to radar. Now they are simply toys where you can talk to someone else a long way away. You pretty much got it. The intent is for folk...

Nope. You're much closer - it does have to do with audio - but it's not a mirror...

To get an idea of its size, here's a visual hint:

Re: Guess The Device

https://i.ibb.co/FgrqN4f/device.jpg Warren's Golden Decagon. I don’t believe I’ve seen it referred to that in any doc I’ve read, but good try (I guess ;)). While it is a decagon, it is a large simple device that has been designed to serve a single specific purpose. Hint: This one is in Michigan’s C...

Re: Bob & Tom Show returning to NW Michigan

I figured out what made me mental about Bob and Tom before I had SiriusXM.... in an hour of broadcasting, Bob and Tom have about 36 minutes of content, of which 13 minutes is live read commercials... so 24 minutes of live show. Howard Stern does about 50 minutes of content and show every hour. Thus...

Re: Prime Video Is TRASH

It's not just Prime free streams. Many of the local TV stations' platforms do the same jerky breaks, and sometimes the same ad runs multiple times PER BREAK, not just per show. Lament all you wish, but remember it could be (and likely WILL be) worse in the future. Pretty sure requests for better qua...

Cedar Springs Brewing in Cedar Springs owns Küsterer in GR. The Cedar Springs location has a full food menu and the full beer lineup, while the GR location is smaller, with a small food menu and not as many taps.

We go to both regularly. :hat
Good to know. Thanks!

Re: Name The Beer 2.1

Excellent! Cedar Springs Brewery's Küsterer Export. One of our favorite breweries. They even have delicious schnitzel. CSBC looks to have much the same bier menu as Küsterer Brauhaus, located on the west side of GR: https://grbrauhaus.com/ From the looks of things, they may even be the true source ...

Re: Rite Aid bankrupt

Some years ago, there was a deal in place for Walgreens to buy out a large number of Rite Aid stores, but I believe that deal was terminated. All of the big 3 brick and mortar pharmacies - CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid & their subsidiaries - are shuttering stores right now. Competition from in-store phar...

Re: Suit filed to keep Trump off Michigan ballot

Ironically, the left-leaning, so-called, "Free Speech For People" org, is trying to work its "Keep Trump Off The Grass" campaign in other states as well: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/sep/12/minnesota-lawsuit-trump-14-amendment As an independent, I find it both comical (and disturbing) th...
