Re: Numbers

Wheels was launched by Doubleday. I can't connect Doubleday to Minnesota either. Doubleday's HQ was in New York. I can't recall where WLLZ's first PD, John Larson came from...maybe that's the Minnesota connection. All of this folderol is giving me a headache.

Re: Numbers

Well now I feel cheated. I was talking about from a "radio wars" standpoint. When Wheels came on and caused two market leaders to flinch and battled Riff for nearly 15 years. That shit wouldn't happen today. That post, confusing 98.7 and 99.5 was so far off the rails, I couldn't resist. Radio wars ...

Re: Numbers

I've said it before here...there hasn't been an upstart in this market in a long time that has taken down the incumbent. Because of said lack of detail. They come on, play the same shit as the other guy, don't promote, don't spend, hang around or 2 or 3 share (at best), don't research...and then in...

They had this CP for Class C2. Why didn't they build it?

Roy never owned any land over there to build on. Not to speak in cliches, but that CP was nothing more than a line drawn in the sand. :lol

Re: WLLZ isn't going to change, WIDL is where it's at

Interesting post, which brought to mind "crossovers". Whatever happened to crossovers on CHR radio? There's always been tailor-made Top 40 pop product, but I can vividly remember DRQ playing Fuel, Aerosmith, Blink 182, Green Day, and Faith Hill crossovers, amongst others. Rock, Alternative Rock, Ac...

What is Sean's role on WJR outside of the Lions?
Occasional guest host.

He also does Catholic HS games on WDTK. I imagine he's a free agent, and doing the best he can.

Re: Detroit annoyance list

Frank Beckmann and Guy Gordon.

How either one is still there puzzles me. Frank's producer, Chris Renwick, is a better host, gets better callers, and puts on a better show when he's filling in. Guy Gordon never worked from the get-go. Trainwreck radio at it's finest.

There is only one person left from the glory days of CARS 108.
Cars 108 should bring back Michael W. Kay. :hat

Re: If You Live in Edison County MI, Your Election was Fraudulant

It gets worse. On WJR this morning, Frank Beckmann speculated on-air that Sidney may have been referring to "Addison" County, Michigan...Frank blathered on and on until Chris Renwick interrupted him, to let him know there's no Addison County either. This is the drivel that passes for local talk rad...

Re: Blarney Stone Petitions FCC to cancel WLDR license

If the license ends up getting cancelled, I think at least one station will apply to move to 101.9. I wonder if we could see something like what happened with another operator (Cochise Broadcasting) that had multiple stations silent for long periods of time. As part of a deal, Cochise voluntarily t...

Re: RIP 89X

Why the hell did we go from 1 country station to 4? How can Detroit sustain them all? I don't get these moves. More 94 was Country. Wrong again. More 94 was the rehashed "CKLW" and Oldies/Classic Hits. Eventually, they dropped More 94, and the jocks just called it "CK". Tom Shannon, and Dave Prince...

Re: RIP 89X

Never would I have thought that 580'S oldies format was going to outlive 89X and 93.9 the River. Being an old fogey, I am delighted 580 survives. It's a breath of fresh air in the foul wind of stale corporate radio. As for the two plug-n-play FM's, they will never amount to much. Good luck selling ...

It was way before your time, but it's not the first time we've had 4 country stations in the market.

Re: 98.7 Alternative!

It's hardly a secret that "alternative" is David Field's favorite format. This directive undoubtedly came down from the top, coupled with, I am sure, budgetary shenanigans.
