Re: RIP 89X

Never would I have thought that 580'S oldies format was going to outlive 89X and 93.9 the River.

Re: 98.7 Alternative!

I'm thinking this is only a stunt. They went All-Christmas earlier today only to switch to Alternative today? You'd think they would flip right after Christmas was over.

Re: RIP 89X

I'm surprised 93.9 The River changed; it was getting a 5 share in Essex County. 89X had a paltry 2.3 share. Will be interesting to see if Blackburn makes any changes. Country seems like a truly awful choice given how many options already exist. I hope Blackburn flips 95.9 to 939's old format, picks...

Re: RIP 89X

If 88.7 wanted to go country, why not a station similar to the one Austin.

I just don't see this format lasting a few years.

I'll miss the old 93.9 somewhat. I liked the retro lunch and Time Warp.

Also feel bad for every one laid off.

Re: RIP 89X

Former CKWW PD Charlie O'Brien posted on his Facebook yesterday that Bell cleaned house at Ouellette Avenue yesterday, save for AM 800. The music director for AM 580 was let go, the only remaining staffer for that station. Jack, Virgin, TSN, and/or country. Spin the wheel. 580 actually had a music ...

89X: "You're probably not going to like it"

Is code word for probably Country Music .... :hat

They do this all the time when a format change happens, as it's usually a completely different format with a completely different audience.

Re: RIP 89X

Does 580 even bring in any revenue? I mean it’s a computer in a closet, so obviously there’s little operating expense, but they can’t be bringing in much. To whoever had the idea to mimic Absolute Radio — I would listen to a station like that, but I’d probably be in the minority. Sent from my iPhon...

Re: RIP 89X

I'm hearing rumblings that CKWW is changing also. If so, that seems to support the idea of a Classic Hits or Adult Hits format on one of the two FM's. As for 580's new format, my gut feeling is TSN Radio 580. I'm surprised 580 is still around as an oldies station today. It's been on autopilot for 5...

Re: RIP 89X

Agreed; CHR/Pop is most likely outcome. Would not rule out Variety Hits, either. A little bit of the 89X playlist will probably be integrated into 93.9. Would be nice if 93.9 could sound more like 107.1. Gawd, speaking of 93.9, they are playing Justin Timberlake right now. Barf. The lead balloon ha...

Re: RIP 89X

I kind of figured 89x's end was coming for at least 8 years. I think Dave and Chuck leaving was the start of the downfall.

I too am kind of surprised about 93.9 flipping. The River seemed to be fairly popular.

I second the idea of a variety hits format on 88.7.

Re: RIP 89X

It looks like 93.9 the River is flipping too. One of them might be CHR.

Re: KDTI Has Gone All Christmas Music

Why is KDTI in this section? Because KDTI, 37 watts at 90.3, is in Rochester Hills, MI. Since their network was dropped, it is K Love Christmas. Anyone know if it is all religious Christmas Music? It would be refreshing next to "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer" and "I Want A Hippopotamus For Chr...

The station has been statistically flat the past several surveys. Over that period, 105.5 has seen what are most likely the worst AQH shares ever in the history of the radio station.
I think the closest they had to bad AQH shares was in 2012 when they tried CHR for the first time.
