I’m fine up until the 90’s after that no interest.
The rise of hip hop and rap in the 1990's really split the pop music audience. I'll watch a YouTube video of music from any year before 1990 and recognize most of the music. After that, a lot of it's unfamiliar.

Re: Worst Christmas Songs on the Radio

My Jewish friend who spent many years in radio complains about famous Jewish recording artists doing Christmas albums. So according to my friend those are the worst Christmas songs. Interesting since most commercial music is produced to make a buck. Probably plenty of non Jewish singers also don’t ...

the one about starving kids in Africa with all the limeys yelling "DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS TOIME AT ALL!"
Every time I hear that song I wonder if it ever snows in Africa.

I guess this is the answer: https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/image ... can-desert

Re: 98.7 Christmas Music?

It's a good idea. At this point, the repeats are starting to get repetitive, so the Christmas songs are a way to keep people from going to WNIC.

I graduated from high school in 1977, but I've been able to appreciate some current music, thanks to restaurant radio, Amazon Prime, and Saturday Night Live. My 2000s playlist on Amazon Prime includes these artists: Colby Caillat (Coco album) Katy Perry (a few singles and several album cuts, includ...

Define old.
For most people, it's probably a relative thing. Anything more specific than that, and I know someone would object.

Re: New Music for Old Folks

We're experiencing a disconnect between the reference to Paul McCartney's "New" album from 2013, and what I assume is a reference to his new album, "Egypt Station", from 2018. So, his old album is his "New" album, and his new album isn't "New". I'll cede the discussion to Messrs. Abbott & Costello ...

Define new too, because those songs aren't new
I should have said "newer". As time goes by, the music periods become larger and larger. I can identify many songs by year from about 1970 to 1985, but after that it becomes a decade-by-decade thing.

I've been flipping the dial when Whitney Houston Christmas songs come on. Everything after her beautiful first album was way overproduced.

98.7 as Restaurant Music

My local Leo's Coney Island has switched to 98.7 as its background music after switching between WNIC and 93.9. It's almost perfect music for that setting—very relaxing and atmospheric.

Have any other restaurants switched to 98.7 as their background music?

Re: Ron Cameron's Restaurants?

He has a compulsive need to keep searching for another restaurant. Then he's probably a very difficult person to deal with in negotiations, based on his personality and the fact that he's always "working out a few more details." The last I heard he was supposed to open up something on December 1 but...
