Manditory ATSC 1.0 Simulcasting End Date

So, we now know what the length of time for manditory simulcasting of x.1 ATSC 1.0 streams will be: sometime in 2023, according to https://www.tvtechnology.com/news/fcc-broadcasters-cant-use-vacant-chs-for-next-gen-tv After that, a station can fully convert to ATSC 3.0 (which means a second digital ...

Re: Linux: who here uses it?

I use Windows on my primary machine (an Asus laptop), but I have a much older desktop tower from around 2008 that runs Linux... and I run Windows Subsystem for Linux for when I need to try stuff out without wanting to turn on a second machine. The Linux machine (and WSL configuration) are used mostl...

he gets a guaranteed outlet to broadcast his own TV show, and he gets to say he owns a station since he's the head of Howard Stirk Communications... but he pays Sinclair to do all the hard work of actually *running* it so he doesn't have to deal with that hassle... If you look in FCC filings, Cunnin...

Re: There's a moderate risk of severe weather today, and...

It's just as bad on this side of the border, too... a quarter of Canada's doppler weather radar sites are "not operational" right now, and I have no idea why.... the following sites are down: Exeter, ON (north of London), Montreal River (north of Sault Sainte Marie), Schuler, AB (near Medicine Hat, ...

A marginally-better signal in Ann Arbor and Monroe, possibly even fringe coverage in Toledo, but at the expense of covering Port Huron as well as they do (they still would, just with a slightly-weaker signal)... let them just stay where they are since they serve the market well enough as it is with ...

Re: Channel 31

That would be ION Television's station, WPXD-TV. It moved from UHF 50 to UHF 24. You might have to try typing in "24" on your TV set so it re-maps to the new frequency. Of course, if you're south of Detroit, that will likely get you WNWO Toledo instead. WNWO's now on UHF 23. They had to move for th...

Re: WOTV - Virtual Channel 4?

I do... i always found that a bit odd that Akron and Canton never broke off to become their own market, or join the Youngstown/Warren market.... they're pretty sizable communities on their own. A station *can* apply for permission to use a virtual channel that's NOT their former analog, or current p...

Re: NBC LX Launches in Detroit

I just find it a bit confusing that NBC saw Sinclair Broadcast Group's "TBD" digital subnetwork and thought "I want a piece of that pie!"... most people in my generation (millennials) and younger aren't that interested in watching television these days :P

Scroll to 14:00 in. it's in the retrospective special WXYZ ran the week after his death: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atQgRAIJPEY That July 14, 1989 broadcast was absolutely insane. There was also this very combative interview with Utah Senator Orrin Hatch f...

Re: WXYZ branding

if you love that news team from about 20 years back, you'd absolutely LOVE "Michigan's First News Team" of Doris Biscoe, Al Ackerman, Bill Bonds, Jerry Hodak, and Diana Lewis... THAT was Channel 7's "dream team" in the early 1970s to the early 1990s. I think Steve Garagiola (now at Local 4) actually...
