Re: WLNZ to Michigan Radio?

I've been a little curious as to why WKAR doesn't do more to head off Michigan Radio in the Lansing area. WUOM gets fairly decent ratings already in Lansing with their NPR talk programming. Meanwhile, the programming on 870/105.1 during the day is mostly filler BBC and niche shows. Why not try keep...

Re: Pre WITL Top 40 Lansing 1963 Station Survey

I remember WMRT in 1963. Whatever they called it, it wasn't Top 40. Closer to MOR with Top 40 cross-overs. They were an ABC affiliate and pretty much took everything, Flair Reports, Paul Harvey and the evening news block. In the evening on FM, the guy on the board took it easy and basically took the...

Notice the pictures of the "Good Guys" air staff at the bottom. Tom Pratt later became "Tom Greene" (Pratt was his real name), state capitol reporter for (in turn) WJR, WJBK-TV and WDIV-TV. Tim O'Brien became a correspondent for ABC News.

Re: Never Saw The Dog, Now He's Gone

He got the dog from a breeder right after he was first elected. Apparently a rescue dog wasn't good enough. One of his daughters is allergic so they had to get a dander-free dog, a labradoodle. Yes, there were news stories about it when he got the dog. Right after that, Biden got a dog from a breede...

Re: Jill Biden: Bad Dissertation Writer; Applauded for Teaching English at Comm College

She has an EdD, not a PhD. No dissertation required. It's a degree for teachers who want to become principals. And it's a degree in Education, so how the hell is she qualified to teach even freshman English? It's also the same degree Bill Cosby got.

Re: The Jeff Christie School Of Broadcasting 1971

Thanks to Jeff, there's no longer a need for "broadcasting schools." No more entry-level jobs at small and medium market stations. Everything is satellite-delivered. A blowhard on 600 stations from noon to 3pm means 600 broadcasters have to work at McDonald's.

When TV characters go outside late in the evening, the pavement is always wet. In TV World, it always rains right after dark.

The best in view is on channel two.
When did they run this promo?
In the 50s, back when they were notorious for preempting much of the CBS schedule.

Re: Listeners are abandoning local radio in droves in the Lansing market

It's not just the Lansing market. It's everywhere. And it's not just radio. The broadcast-gatekeeper model is terminal. We have entered the era of the on-demand, long-tail model. Who needs some PD or consultant to pick what you listen to? Now anyone can be their own PD. Anyone can have unlimited cho...

Re: All In The Family / Jeffersons / Live

I happen to catch the original AITF episode. They made a lot of changes for the re-creation. Most notably, the brief appearance by Irene Lorenzo in the recreation was by Frank Lorenzo in the original. The worst part, the guy playing George Jefferson in the recreation flubbed a line and the broke cha...
