Two words...Dave Mauer.
Dave would have coached.....IF he felt there was potential. Dave was an incredible mentor.

Re: WNEM Super Bowl message
SO KC driving down late in the game and TV 5 cut into a commercial break...think it was 2-30s before they rejoined the game...luckily we did nt miss anything..anyone else see that happen? Yup - and immediately switched to WLNS, and luckily pulled in enough signal to watch the rest of the game. Impr...

Re: Broadcasting burnout
Ugh. AI. While I'm a technologist at heart (IT Engineer) in the present time - and love technology as a whole - we (as a human race) are SO NOT READY for the implications that AI could have. Feed "AI" some bad info (sure, there are checks/verifications - but there's a limit to everything) - and now ...

Re: Broadcasting burnout
Perhaps ironically, 'Automation' was supposed to save all this Ca$h. That "savings" sure didn't get passed down to those actually grunting through their day to make that $$$. I was in the industry during a transition to automation; and while there certainly are benefits, I always felt (and could for...

Re: Hum in am signal
While off topic from the OPs post, I'm curious about this WIOG path between Indiantown and Fenton. (Reasoning?)
Also got me thinking about some other STLs; WCEN for example. 35.12 miles, according to points on Google Earth.

Interesting. Glad to hear they're "assuming numerous possibilities". Although, truth be told - EVERYTHING is vulnerable.

Re: Well this is an obscure-looking FM tuner
I still find Tuners (sometimes just small radios) connected to older phone systems in MDFs (communication rooms) at client sites. Quite a common practice, especially in the Bay City/Saginaw market - where 'Beautiful Music - 102.5 WGER' was piped into phone systems for your (enjoyment?) while on-hold...

I have a feeling this is going to be fun. X.509/TLS w/CA? I'd expect TVs to have a shorter lifespan, due to advances in TLS encryption over time. Get ready to help your parents/grandparents with firmware updates! (Assuming firmware updates would be delivered via the air - so do broadcasters have to ...

Re: Free pay channel previews
Always found it strange that PASS was a pay-channel on (most) CATV systems. Up here in the Tri-Cities, Bresnan (Charter/Spectrum) offered it on the Standard CATV tier, on Channel 28.

Re: 2+ Hours of 100.5 The Fox (2002-2004) digitally archived
That period in time was a crazy time for Tri-Cities radio. Working for several of the Citadel stations (pre-Wilks), then one day had to choose which to stick with. Auditors bashing into the studio, jotting down serial numbers of equipment while on-air. Alot of confusion between what could be taken t...

Re: Effect Of Antenna Height On FM Receiving Antenna Gain
That definitely looks like Basic (whether GW, QB, or QuickBasic). Dead giveaway is the "?" on all of the prompts for input. INPUT commands would always prompt with a Question Mark. LINE INPUT command would not, but only gather string (text) data; you'd have to convert the variable to numeric format ...

Re: NextGen and the "volume problem"?
It appears to me that this could have something to do with the sound encoding used on various media. Consider most of your xHD/Network programming is encoded in Dolby AC3; where the center channel information (where the dialog sits) is on its own channel entirely (if mixed properly). Add to the fact...
