Ridiculousness
So when did we reach a point where our media folks get near-orgasms about windstorms? Tracy McCaskill on WWJ sounded absolute giddy today when she told us about “power outages possible!” And Rexroth and his buddies at 7 just LOVE their newer graphic which tells us where the power outages could be.

Re: Johnny In The Morning
I forgot about Rocky’s “Showgram” - it was bad IMO; as well as Kevin, who was there briefly.
Kevin did sound great on 96.3.
Was Kevin with Spike and Sara on 96.3, or was it during his brief return to 95.5?

Johnny In The Morning
Whatever happened to Johnny Edwards and his crew on 96.3? If memory serves me correctly, he came after Mikey Harrison and before Blaine Fowler, so that would be approximately 1996-2001….

Stoney
Good to hear him subbing for Mikey today. Perhaps he will sub someday for Riger, and co-host with Wojo.

Re: Stoney
I enjoyed younger Stoney much better. Not a big fan of old man Stoney but I would take him all day over "smartest guy in the room" Costa. Can't stand Costa. Friday will be my last day listening to the morning show. Now we get Valenti in the afternoon, and Valenti’s clone in the morning. I kind of l...

Re: Weather reporting
A bit of weather overachievement (at least in Novi). Our local tv news folks were looking for an inch, or maybe a bit more….I’m seeing 3 inches so far.
TWC was calling for 4” when I checked online at 7:00am. That seems accurate.

Re: No Detroit CHR from 1994-98?
I remember ‘DRQ starting in August 1996 as a Rhythmic CHR with a good deal of oldies and recurrents. Then it seemed to change a bit back and forth, gravitating to more dance/harder R&B and then back to a Rhythmic Hot AC…they seemed to find their way by late 1998, to CHR. The morning show with Joe Ma...

Re: No Detroit CHR from 1994-98?
I thought that JoJo Kincaid was quite talented and interesting, but his style didn’t seem to fit with the Hot AC programming at the time.
Who was handling evenings at 95.5 in that 1997 era? I forget.

Re: No Detroit CHR from 1994-98?
By early 1997, if you wanted a good flavor for general CHR, you’d have to catch the softer hits on Q95.5, the rhythmic hits on ‘DRQ, and the alt-flavored hits on Planet. I also used to listen to WTWR 98.3 in Monroe, which I think was broad-based CHR at that time.

Re: Weather reporting
WXYZ folks were obnoxious last Thursday, with maps showing potential power outages likely. Dave Rexroth must have mentioned power outages three times per segment, as well as winds predicted to gust to 55 mph. What’s with the fear mongering? Yes, the storm was pretty strong, but only about 5% experie...

Re: Weather reporting
It seems to happen frequently this time of the year. We get a lot of overly optimistic forecasts in terms of sun.
For tomorrow, I bet we won’t get more than an hour or two of sun at sunrise, then get into thick clouds by noon.

Re: Weather reporting
All week the folks at 2, 4, 7 have been calling for sunny or partly cloudy skies today. I’ve seen nothing but thick clouds all day. With all of the moisture in the air the last several days, it’s not a surprise that they are wrong. We had an abnornally sunny stretch for the Nov. 1 - Dec. 21 time per...

Re: WJOI 97fm 1987
spring 1984, WJOI topped WJR and was the #1 station in the market... I hated that format , on principle. Why would someone want to advertise on a station that is "background" - makes no sense Back in that era there was a subscription music service called Muzak that offices and other businesses woul...

Re: WJOI 97fm 1987
I remember my grandfather listening to Joy FM once it became a little "hotter" or more contemporary in the early 90s. It seems once the 90s rolled in, all the easy listening stations got a lot hotter. In 1994, 97.1 became Star 97 “The Greatest Hits of the 70’s” that lasted about 18 months. Star 97 ...
