30+ years ago, Lansing was an exciting, dynamic radio market. Most of the on-air offerings I hear there today are on par with a market like Lima, Ohio.

Re: 106.5 Toledo

106.5 is a clunker facility, that probably shouldn't have been built in the first place. The only place they could squeeze it in is out by the airport. That severely limits the height, which I believe is around 350'. The primary coverage area is largely wasted over cornfields. It cuts Toledo in half...

Re: URBAN ONE is selling Urban AC WDMK

Urban One should exit the broadcasting business entirely. They are a laughingstock in Cincinnati and Houston. Makes me wonder if Cathy Hughes is no longer playing an active role in the company.

I wonder, what will happen to Mildred Gaddis?

Re: WPAY

the sad part about the story is that at one time there were plans to make it Toledo's strongest AM radio station by applying for a 10000 watt license, although directional of course. I can't think of any of the radio station that had transmitter sites in two different states, making it the most uni...

Re: How Wheels 106.7 programs by the hour

I just heard Pearl Jams "Animal" and "Why Go" on WRIF 101.1. Two exact songs that should be in 106.7's wheel house. But nope, they gotta play some song from the 70's for the millionth time and call themselves "The new generation of classic rock". Pearl Jam should work, I agree. However, I don't bel...

Re: How Wheels 106.7 programs by the hour

Dire Straits. Wheels is playing "Money for Nothing" which is fine, but what about "Industrial Disease"? When Love Over Gold came out in '82, Wheels played that track into the ground. How about "Skateaway" "Solid Rock" or "Expresso Love" from the Making Movies album? Every one of those is on Jeff Pol...

Re: WPAY

Hal Gore was the smartest guy in the 1520 Toledo story. He bought the station in the 1970's, and flipped it to paid religion. When he sold it, he held on to the 2 transmitter sites, collecting rent all of those years. Sadly, I think he passed away before cashing in on the real estate. Not sure about...

Re: America's Rural Radio Stations Are Vanishing

The article is largely bullshit. The vast majority of "rural" FM stations are still on the air, and avid Buzzboard readers are certainly aware of numerous instances where completely new FM stations have signed on the air in rural & unrated markets over the past 15 or so years. Examples: - B 103.9 B...

Re: How Wheels 106.7 programs by the hour

There's way too much G'NR and Motley Crue on Wheels for my liking. What's missing are the hit tracks from artists who don't have a big catalog. What's wrong with songs like "Inside Out" by XYZ? Or, "Jelly Roll" by Blue Murder? How about "Seasons" by Tyketto? Somewhere, AOR was jettisoned for the low...

Re: America's Rural Radio Stations Are Vanishing

Sad. Corporate Greed is an insatiable cancer in the U.S. There is nothing "corporate" about the schlemeils who keep trying to move this signal into Tucson. Quite the opposite, actually. They are not mentioned by name in this story, but a lot of people in the business are well aware of them, a...

Re: Mark King / Chuck Davies Leaving for Oregon

Imagine working with or taking advice from Mark King seriously . Maybe thats where his anger comes from . Know one does . Let's not knock the guy too much. I hear he's a top notch repair man when the Big Gulp or Slurpee machine is busted. Of course, that's if he's not on the phone with radio statio...

I love it. All it proves is that Casey was human like the rest of us. We all have a breaking point. It's funny how the longer he rants, the more enraged he gets.

Re: Townsquare GR scores big name as new OM

Per RadioInsight, Brian Thomas is the new cluster OM. In recent years, he has programmed 101 WCBS and 94.7 WLS-FM. Until very recently, he was OM/PD of Kicks 101.5 in Atlanta (an appointment that didn't make much sense to me since his background seems to be largely non-country radio). How interesti...

Re: Mark King / Chuck Davies Leaving for Oregon

OKAY, but not right now, wait here's a better idea why don't you leave. Delete your account and never come back. I hope this nut is feeling the love. We get these type every so often, I remember the one in the Toledo forum, it took us a year to get rid of that one. I agree with Matt, and Matt and I...
