Re: 1560 WWYC off the air again

I just see it as futile, to keep 1560am going. CSN has struggled technically to keep it going as of late. I do agree that, in the next 10 years the AM dial will be hollowed out quite a bit. A lot of CSN's stations and translators are in the middle of nowhere. The isolated translator near Deshler, O...

Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength

It's my belief that "conditions" are dragging the 99.3 signal inland on some days. There's no way it's broadcasting from anywhere near Traverse City.

What's playing on 100.1/100.7, if anything? Roy lost his good tower site for that one, by not paying the site rent.

Re: 1560 WWYC off the air again

Let's get some facts straight here: Cumulus swapped 1560 for the flimsy 100.7 translator, some years ago. 1560 lost 1 tower when the Arlington Ave studios were expanded. It hasn't been the same since. Not sure what 1560 is paying for site rent, if anything. 1090 WCAR (WIID) was a moneymaker when Wal...

The same way "Powerline" fit onto the stations it used to run on (it may still, for all I know) - it doesn't. It just runs and people stay tuned or not.
Tom Kent re-started Powerline on his network a couple of years ago.

Re: Mike Duggan files for divorce

Personally, I don't care about the Mayor's personal life. But, Duggan has gotten more done for the city than any other politician has done in my lifetime. And, I have been following Detroit politics for nearly 50 years. His time in office is far from perfect, but look back with what he had to work ...

Re: WLLZ Deep Cut Saturday

Pat Travers NOT in the Canadian Music Hall Of Fame yet. Pat Travers has lived in Orlando for years. I would occasionally see him at WHTQ, when Neil Mirsky was PD there. His music was always far more popular in places like Philly and NYC. He sang lead on "Get the Funk Out" for Extreme, which receive...

Anything new on this "cluster"? I am still puzzled as to how one can lease stations that are nearly technically impossible to operate.

Re: WLLZ Deep Cut Saturday

Pat Travers has more regional appeal, especially on the east coast. In the Midwest, not as much.

Re: WLLZ Deep Cut Saturday

"Problem Child" is a little too cheesy for me; Touch Too Much is a great song, though! "Shot Down in Flames" is a great AC/DC track as well. Rarely heard anymore. The stale, predictable formula of "Classic Rock" needs to get back to what we old PD's knew as "AOR" and stop aiming for the lowest comm...

Re: WLLZ Deep Cut Saturday

I really like the imaging of WLLZ and the tires squealing and all that. This is the motorcity of coarse and also the tightness of the sweepers to the music no dead air. Who is there voice over guy now?? Not sure. He's not bad, but he's no Kerry Maul. I can't believe I'm the only one here who remembe...

Re: WLLZ Deep Cut Saturday

Air talent is a wash between the two stations, although 94.7 definitely has the most annoying air "talent" of the bunch (Dahmer). Few people under age 50 are enthused about WLLZ. It certainly has the potential to crack a 4 share, but I cannot see the station pulling ahead of WCSX in 6+ or in A25-54...

Re: WLLZ Deep Cut Saturday

Let's not get too crazy just yet. They're playing some album cuts, not giving away a million dollars cash. This isn't 1980; there won't be a "meteoric rise" like there was back then. Remember, nine years ago, Doug FM was kicking the shit out of WCSX. They tightened the playlist and the numbers shot...

Re: 93.1 Gnash FM is now the lowest rated station in Detroit

Lets see: Any sort of rock format is out. CHR I doubt. WJR, simulcast nah. Sports? I don't see the cloud boys putting the money into that unless they were really serious. I look at some of there other sports stations in other markets and I'm not impressed. Toledo's 106.5 is pitiful. If I were to be...

97.1 was a 70s station about two decades ago and it flopped.
Star 97 failed as a 70's station because the station's sound was "too white". Missing were the 70's R&B songs we all loved. You can only go so far with Frampton, and The Steve Miller Band.

Re: WMOM shuts down

Something here isn't passing the smell test. If WMOM were as successful as some seem to speculate, it seems to me that someone would have stepped up to run the place until it could be sold. Why didn't one of the all important "Sports Guys" make that offer? Most likely, the answer is that the place w...
