Re: WION works its way west, on an FM Translator

Their 100.3 FM signal is up and running, something the Ionia based station has acknowledged in a number of their promos and buffers on all their signals. I could get it in, up to about the Cascade Road exit on westbound I-96 early Sunday morning. Hard to say if they will turn any business in Ada an...

Re: 97.1 WGLQ - when did they segue to Hot AC?

Out of curiosity, when did the station change its identity from "Magic 97" to "97.1 GLQ - Today's Best Music" ? In the process, their format seems to have shifted from CHR/Pop to Hot AC. An acquaintance who works for the station group told me some months back when I was finalizing my 500 Top-of-Hou...

Re: 96.3 wkla format tweak

Yeah, it's easy to tell them apart from others on 96.3 because they are the horrid sounding station that is quieter than the rest. You'd almost think the same person who does 98.7 and 97.7 does 96.3 because they all have that crappy audio in common. At least 96.3 stays on the air as opposed to 97.7/...

Re: 106.1 FM on the air right now

You really need a directional FM receiving antenna, cckadlec. You'd be surprised how many nested signals there are capturing the rest. I haven't checked it out lately, but in the old days, it was not uncommon to be able to receive three or four cochannel stations on all but the strongest signals. Y...

Re: 106.1 FM on the air right now

Solid reception on my car’s radio at 68th St. & 131. No signal heard up here in Fremont. Phew. Some of those GR translators have really killed the dial up here. 90.7 is a minor pest at just 13 watts and more than 35 miles. 99.5 Lowell has killed a good part of 99.5 here (one of the more potent ones...

Re: Lake Superior Bandscan Series

I agree about content on AM but am more isterested in where the signals are coming from, Back in the late 50's and early 60' s you could try to log all the clear channel signals at night fom all over the US and Canada ! I heard as far as KFI in Los Angeles and some of the superpower signals from Me...

Re: Lake Superior Bandscan Series

Why doesn't anybody do an AM, bandscan ? Last time I was at Paradise, near the falls, I did a listing of all the AM & FM stations I could hear with my TekSun pL880, but I could not ID many of the stations that seemed to play continuous music and national brand commerials. All my AM content is from ...

Re: 99.3 WQAN Signal Strength

Was on M72 in Gaylord today when I saw a Q100 billboard east of Meijer. Tuned in 100.3 then and could barely pick it up. Put it on 99.3 and what I could pick up definitely wasn’t the same song. Kind of sad that they can barely be heard where they place a billboard 99.3 in Gaylord? Gaylord and Grayl...

For those who are fans of bandscans, three of my bandscan series are online in their entirety. Re: What If WION did a DX Test and Nobody Came?

Believe me, everybody heard the darn test. My e-mail inbox was FLOODED with dozens of e-mails from people on the MW e-mail lists who heard the test across the country. I'm not doing any AM stuff and am only in the groups for other reasons (my Asian AM projects), so it was a bit of a nuisance to me t...

Re: The New Jethro FM

I've noticed the past few weeks, 94.9 Jethro FM has come in almost as clear as Magic 104.9 does here in northeastern Kent county , It would almost always be WMMQ until lately. As for the translator on 99.1, Mix 99.1 from WI will kill it in the summer. It's likely coming in better lately because of ...

Re: The New Jethro FM

I've kinda ignored the whole Jethro post here for some time, but checked the radio for the first time in two or so weeks and noticed a new semi-local on 99.5. Jethro comes in loud and clear here in Fremont. No problem at all hearing it; signal level is close to the other GR translators here (104.9, ...

Re: 97.3 Grand Rapids shut down

Trophyhead and ZZM, I'd be interested in signal reports now. The main transmitter wasn't back on until yesterday (2/14). Before then the ERP was probably only 650 watts. It should be better to the south, because there was a shadow from a tower leg at the old location. WDEE has a better signal than ...

Re: any thoughtssss

Local (daylight) AM signals actually are ture ground wave, where the transmitter antenna induces currents in the surface of the Earth ! Oops, totally didn't consider groundwave there. Thanks for the correction! (As if we barely have enough daylight this time of year for a handful of hours of decent...

Re: any thoughtssss

I'm confuzzled. Are you asking if the proximity of the towers affect each of their coverage areas? I'd elaborate on the permafrost comment, but the permafrost region doesn't start until just south of Hudson Bay, so I reckon you won't be seeing permafrost here until at least just before the next ice ...
