Re: Memories FM

I caught this station in the null of Power 92 with its TOH ID on Saturday just south of Ludington. It wasn't the easiest station to find in the null as Power is a very intense signal there, but once I found the right spot, it was in pretty well. Certainly a much higher power than they were running l...

I guess the ground conducitvity on a sand due is so bad you can't hear ANY AM stations ?
Totally accurate! I could not hear any AM stations.

Of course, I did not turn my radio to AM mode... so I guess that is a better explanation than conductivity :razz

Re: Sleeping Bear Dunes Bandscans (600+ mi.)

The K-Love on 95.3 was likely KQKL Keokuk, IA [transmitter in MO] instead of WPCK overload. KQKL is 100kW on a former FM graveyard and I've heard it a couple of times this year down the road in Manistee. Also, WRVM's two translators in Sheboygan are basically redundant with the presence of WYVM (sp...

WLDR hasn't been on since last October. It's getting close to the one-year cancellation date
Thanks for the additional details on that one. I hadn't been paying any attention to it since then, especially since it's hard to hear on an IBOC frequency and with The Mix in the way.

Sleeping Bear Dunes Bandscans (600+ mi.)

The catches of August 27th from my Empire Bluff site south of Empire, Mich., 445 feet above Lake Michigan, included some big signals up to 600+ miles to Minnesota and North Dakota. Conditions nearly mirror those of August 24 last year from my dune site 4 miles to the north, with signals also into th...

Re: What Does the Fox Say? Goodbye...

Does anybody know the status of the 100.5 Boyne City translator of The Fox FM? Has it turned off completely with the absence of its parent station or has it been broadcasting other content or being sold?

WCUZ 101.3 & 1230 AM

While I believe I had seen it in the past, I spotted this sticker in the park in Grand Rapids and got curious of its time and origins. The WCUZ calls were used from 1980 to 2000, paired with 1230 as a country station. I'm sure many people recall that (I really don't). Does anyone know what year or s...

Re: The Big Opening To The East

In Grand Rapids (visiting my sister), I had a lot of stations in to the north/northeast (most of the big ones in the northern LP, several Detroit stations, four Cleveland stations, CKSY/CHYM). My highlights had to be getting 96.9 WWCM mixing with WLAV and managing to get around several translators ...

The Big Opening To The East

Here's a summary of tropo happenings in Fremont from the afternoon of Sept. 11th into the morning of the following day. A duct broke open into Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon, in which Star 104 was received steadily. After a nap, I awoke later in the night to find the first big eastern opening sinc...

Re: 99.3 wqan and 92.3 wbnz

It turns out that WBNZ is still on the air, though I'm unaware for how long it's been. I did some radio work at Sleeping Bear Dunes (some nice 600-mile tropo into the Dakotas on Thursday) and was surprised to run into the signal when looking for it. It's QUIET - I need to max out the volume to liste...

Re: DX in reverse?

I suppose that someone locally could be sending the signal to the website via their own on-air reception. That could be entirely feasible. Especially if they are somewhere on the north or south end of the lakeshore coverage of WEMP, it would be VERY much expected to pick up Petoskey as my own recept...

Re: What's your typical FM Dial?

I'll make my list much like ftballfan's list. Bold stations are the strongest on the dial. Stations which typically come in with RDS are noted as such. IBOC frequencies as well. Stations with more than one station usually heard include both. Those with no dominant station, such as 98.1 where it can ...

Re: WFUR 102.9 off air

For all the time that WFUR was off the air, three stations were regularly heard here in Fremont and never any more than those. WFUR had a decent enough signal where it was quite difficult to ever null the station, so very few things were ever heard in town aside from Grand Rapids. W4 Country at 136 ...

Re: Booming in from the north

Thank you! I seem to recall getting Tigers games on 97.7 back when. I always thought the ID said Sandusky but maybe not. One of those mornings where I'm getting something on almost every frequency. Your Tigers station on 97.7 is indeed Sandusky as the other 97.7 does not air the TIgers. Looks like ...

Re: WFUR 102.9 off air

The new 102.9 is on the air, I heard them earlier talking about “the flesh” sounds a lot like 89.7 https://youtu.be/N_jnhmnSHqM I just wrote that two days before you :razz And yes, I suppose they do sound similar to Strong Tower sorta. They have their differences for sure, but I've spent a lot of t...
