Re: Booming in from the north

97.7 is a pretty horrible signal in Michigan (most of its signal goes into Ontario actually). You more likely heard 97.7 Beaverton which is one of the major night enhacement stations that ends up going longer distances with tropo. It's *possible* it was Sandusky given your location being Brighton th...

Re: WFUR 102.9 off air

A friend in Lapeer sent me a clip of gospel music on 102.9 at 9pm tonight as heard on his radio. 102.9 Grand Rapids is a regular there. I turned on the radio and BBN is on the air now matching his clip. I just recorded a TOH ID from The Hog a few hours ago, so they must have signed on around 8pm, gi...

Re: North Goes South?

Did they dump 99.3 WQAN? I see no mention of the frequency on their site or Instagram now aside from in the description of their Instagram (which hasn't been updated as it doesn't include 94.5 and 106.3). I can't hear 99.3 here, if and when they are even on the air.

Re: WFUR 102.9 off air

Grand Rapids has not been heard since then. Here in Fremont, it has been W4, The Hog, and Big Country all back and forth every day, all day. W4 is often dominant in the day with Big Country dominant at night, sometimes in near local strength with RDS. The Hog is mostly a daytime station and is best ...

Re: WFUR 102.9 off air

It's been quite the while, but 102.9 is back on the air. Sorta. I caught them in the 1pm hour today testing their signal with dead air. I was hoping for a final sign-on (not that I want a station on that frequency...) so I started recording while doing other things. But a few minutes into it, I come...

Re: 102.7 wmom back on air

Listening in Fremont, the signal is significantly weaker now overall (and compared to just before they switched tower sites). It's to the point it's barely listenable anymore on the car radio, which is disappointing. Decent signal on the portable, but only aiming right at it. By Newaygo, it's basica...

Re: WTWS 92.1 The Twister Off-Air??

I caught them accidentally on 131 just south of Big Rapids yesterday (Wednesday) late afternoon with an ID of "92-1 The Twister" about an hour before the initial post here was made.

Re: WFUR 102.9 off air

I heard WOOD-FM 106.9 a few months ago right after WSRT 106.7 went silent, up near Gaylord. The silent stations do open up some opportunities that might be rare in an FM band now jammed with stations, digital sidebands, and translators. I remember driving up I-75 back in the mid 1980s, when you cou...

Re: 102.7 wmom back on air

WRVM's engineer told me the other day that they enjoyed their year without ridiculous interference to their coverage area, but that WMOM is back to its usual of causing interference, especially around Sheboygan, as is the normal path between the two markets. Of course, it's the other way around on t...

Re: 102.7 wmom back on air

WMOM is back OFF the air starting today for up to 4 days while they move to their new tower site and get set up. News for those who somehow didn't listen to the dead air and enjoy the other stations for the whole year they were off.

Re: WFUR 102.9 off air

Their Facebook indicates on the 13th: "WFUR has now fully transitioned to AM1570 and FM92.9, so if you hear silence on FM102.9, please tune over to our other 2 frequencies. Thank you!" and that BBN will start up in about two weeks (from the 13th, that is). All Big Country here in Fremont with a side...

Re: 25 Strongest Signals in the Great Lakes

I would add a couple WIIL 95.1 you can lock that on the lakeshore here in Michigan most of the summer and often 50 miles inland. Power 92.3 from Chicago would be another, before the translator in Lowell came along I could get that as often as 95.1 here. WMYX 99.1-Milwaukee That gets into a cat figh...

25 Strongest Signals in the Great Lakes

Here are the top 25 most potent FM signals in the Great Lakes region - in order - measured in terms of coastal reception from 80 beaches where full bandscans were conducted (some on multiple visits), taken from 2016-19 on a Grundig G8 portable radio as part of over 10,000 miles of driving on radio t...

Re: Great Lakes Reception Maps

WRVM has to be among the top 20, along with at least a couple Central UP stations (WGLQ, WYKX, WFXD, WIMK, and/or WCMM) Of those, only WRVM would qualify. None of the other signals get out beyond Lake Michigan and a bit over Lake Superior, compared to the really big ones that span 3 lakes. GLQ has ...

Re: Great Lakes Reception Maps

Well done! I haven't seen FM DX data presented quite like this before. The map answers questions that I would never have thought to ask. Back in my formative years, I was intensely interested in the correlation between TV DX conditions--especially on UHF--and severe weather. I had several interesti...
