Apologies for the temporary site outage from approximately 1PM ET on Monday, December 11 through the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday. The Buzzboard was targeted (yet again) by a hacker, this time from the Middle East. The site was able to be restored using a backup file from early Sunday morning.

Re: CJBK and CKSL London, Ontario

CJBK was Top 40 from 1972 up until 1987. CKSL was a very good Top 40 station although it didn't have the kind of signal that CFPL 980 or FM 96 had. It was very narrow and interfered with at night. In 1993 CKSL along with CFTR Toronto and CKKW Kitchener dropped the CHR format.

News/Talk and AAA are about the only two options they have right now if they plan to flip at all.

96.3 WHYT from 1986 up until 1992. - A good mix of Urban Contemporary, Top 40, and Dance Music. 102.7 Z-Rock in 1992 and 1993 - Started out good and was different than the competition, at least for the awhile 105.1 The Edge - One the best Alternative radio stations ever. Greater Media didn't give it...

Re: Winter Storm Watch and the idiots who predict it.

Environment Canada hasn't issued anything for SW Ontario although they are calling for a little bit of snow tonight. I agree that very little is going to happen.

Re: CBEF 540

It has become more difficult to broadcast from 540 kHz in Windsor because 530 CIAO Brampton-Toronto went non-directional days after CBEF moved up to 1550. I will be surprised if 540 AM is ever used in the Province of Ontario again.

Re: Country stations on AM from the 60’s and 70’s

1590 WSMA Marine City was Country from 1967 to 1993. It was daytime only for many years.
Another longtime Country Music station is 920 CKNX from Wingham, Ontario which is still in the format to this day.

Re: FM Radio shut down in Norway

http://money.cnn.com/2017/01/06/technology/norway-fm-radio-shut/ Above is another explanation for why they are doing this. Switzerland is considering 2020 as a FM shut down year. Britain might be next after them. If North America hangs onto 88 - 108 MHz for a number of decades they might start going...

Re: UHF channels 70 to 83

When CBS 62 was analog and CFMT was from London on channel 69 they were usually were the first to go at a distance were the lower channels from Detroit and London could still be seen much more clearly. That means anything over 69 would have been even worse yet. So what would make an excellent TV ban...

Re: New HD Radios

The Sangean HD Tuner received mixed reviews. So far I have not seen it compared to the older Sangean models. The table radio has a review stating that it has very good performance. The HDR 16 is the portable radio that was just released very recently. One person compared it to the Sangean PR-D5 and ...

Re: MMTC wants AM to be put down

I can see them thinning out the AM band, but why dump it altogether? 50 KW non directional signals are unmatched for coverage by FM in most locations. In the future they could convert these high powered signals to 100 % digital without reducing transmitter power. The current IBOC system on some AM b...

Re: Are Real Radios Becoming Extinct?

Looks like it's almost over for the tabletop shortwave set. Portable shortwave radios will remain for awhile longer.

There are still wideband receivers, however. The AOR AR8600 mark IIB goes from MW (am broadcast) up to 3000 MHz.
