Re: Latest Nielsen Audio numbers

And you would have to voice track two other stations for free as well as post interesting stories five times a week to “drive traffic to the website”.

Re: October ratings

I was at FGR for eight years and I never understood the almost militant reluctance they had to adding songs to the library. That 2.2 is what you get for rotating the same 220 songs year after year and saving the best music for the occasional "80s weekend".

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV

I definitely remember hearing Petty on both 96.9 and 94.5 in the early or mid 90s. Remember, he had a new (and very successful) album out at the time. "You Wreck Me" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" were singles from that album. 97Rock aired the same TV commercial for months to the tune of "We Will Roc...

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV

Wasn't 1991 the year WLAV briefly tried an Alternative Rock format? Was Abrams involved on that decision? Of course, the main reason WLAV was losing so badly to KLQ was because 94.5 had an enormously popular morning show. WLAV put forth minimal effort in mornings until they stuck the (somewhat cont...

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV

Lew Dickey, John Dickey and Jan Jefferies ruined many stations owned by Cumulus with terrible programming decisions. Those are all radio guys. Were hedge funds a big part of the problem? You bet they were. They overlent and failed to replace poorly performing executives. I think two or three compan...

I've said it before but bad things are bound to happen when you rotate the same 220 songs for eight years. FGR is finding that out.

Re: Grand Rapids September Ratings

SteveL, the Mrs. has more or less moved on to Big 101.3, though I think she listens to JoJo and his partner on their morning show. It is an incredibly tight playlist on 98.7. I tune in 94.5 for sporadic periods, mainly having Real Oldies 1480 and WION out of Ionia on, when the daylight allows. Agre...

Re: Grand Rapids September Ratings

I know we were not necessarily tearing it up when I was at WFGR but I seem to remember we were up around a 4. I guess that's what you get when you continue playing the same 230 songs for 10 years.

Re: On Screen Faces Departing FOX 17

At this rate, "Davis" will be pulling anchoring shifts before Labor Day. Can't expect they will get a tie on him, and the baseball caps will be allowed, for the continuance of character. A plaid sportcoat might be just the accent necessary in such a case. It is sad that he is often the subject of t...

Re: West Michigan Radio Websites are miserably short of content.

Frosty makes some good points. No one was ever really able to explain why those of us on-air needed to "drive the listeners to the website" but every hour at FGR we had to do a break highlighting something that listeners needed to check out. Jocks were responsible for posting X stories every week an...

Re: February Nielsen #'s - Grand Rapids

I would say "all of the above". I have several friends who haven't listened to terrestrial radio in years and some are almost exclusively listening to podcasts or their own music. On the ratings post - When I was first at LAV back in 1990 I distinctly remember being told that very soon all new radio...

I don't think that's the case anymore. When I was in by 8 a.m. to do a midday shift on Saturdays I was the only person in the building and probably the first since 7 or 8 the night before.

Re: 3 Grand Rapids stations were dead air on Sunday afternoon

You all know there was one part timer there when this all happened. The person could have dozed off, or who knows what. Neal used to tell a story of a part timer who went to a bar at a tiny station in downstate Illinois, while he was playing a record of a religious show. The record started to skip ...
