Re: Meteorologist Aaron Ofseyer Leaving WZZM

WZZM must be pretty shitty to work at if on air staff go ti completely different fields I'm sure part of that is also because, at least for those who have put down roots in the GR area and own homes and are raising families, it's far easier to stay in the area and work in a different field (especia...

Re: Meteorologist Aaron Ofseyer Leaving WZZM

Will be interesting to see where Aaron winds up given his statement they are staying in the area but does not say what he will be doing. Gut feeling that once the non-compete clause expires, he'll wind up on WOOD doing the 7pm weather segments and become chief meteorologist there when Bill Steffen ...

Well now that Aaron is leaving, too, George clearly isn't going to be able to retire anytime soon. 🙃

Re: Lee Van Ameyde Dies at 66

It’s a tribute to both Lee and the civility and respect he represented and inspired. Here’s to more of that wherever it can be found. Agreed 100% I'm with MW in that Lee was THE face of WZZM news during their heydey of the '80s and '90s. He was a total class act, hands down. I caught FOX 17's 10pm ...

Re: Lee Van Ameyde Dies at 66

I was saddened to read of Lee’s passing. Condolences to his family and friends. It’s a testament to his place in GR that WOOD did a full story on him as well. I hope more of his kind are to come, as there aren’t enough real journalists today on local television newscasts. Style is fine, but without...

Re: Lee Van Ameyde Dies at 66

R.I.P. Lee I thought he was older more in his early 70's. He aged pretty hard over his last 10 years or so on the air. I remember watching my first WZZM newscast in years not long before he retired and was surprised by how weak his voice was sounding. WOOD's article mentions he had been battling di...

You clearly didn't read the original post which says that very link still lists WBBL as the GR-area affiliate station.

Re: WOOD TV 70 Year Special

Even the photo gallery is lame as hell. WZZM did such a better job with its 50th anniversary celebration a number of years back than WOOD-TV did with its 70th anniversary celebration... I suppose WOOD will have another stab at it in five more years when they reach the big 7-5. That was my thought, ...

Re: WOOD TV 70 Year Special

WOOD has a 70th Anniversary photo gallery on their website that includes some photos of Geha, but that's it:

Wasn't her departure from WOOD rather sudden and controversial?

Re: Breaking: Nexstar reaches agreement to purchase Tribune

Even in the very early CATV days? I know Whitehall had WVTV from Milwaukee until 2006 (it only lasted that long due to GR not having a full-time WB affiliate and CW7 ended up taking WVTV's cable slot) I mean, i was a small child in the '80s, so my memory for that time period isn't that great. There...

With WOTV occupying cable 9 in Muskegon and Fremont, I wonder if it replaced WWTV on one or both of those systems.
Muskegon cable has never carried any adjacent-market stations.

Re: Breaking: Nexstar reaches agreement to purchase Tribune

Was there a point in time in which WOTV wasn't carried in Muskegon? Until about ten years ago, WZZM wasn't carried in Battle Creek or Three Rivers WOTV was carried on Muskegon cable in the 1980s when it was still WUHQ. I don't recall exactly when it was dropped other than it was sometimes in the la...

Re: WYCE Recorded Shows?

It's entirely possible that some of the volunteer programmers at WYCE record their air shifts in advance rather than being live on-air, and it's entirely possible that if someone who had a live shift was unable to make it to the station that they chose to run a recorded show early.

Re: New Years Countdown Programs Sucked Balls

Bit of trivia, the ball drop was initially conceived by the owner of the NYT in 1907. I think the main reason why it's still the biggest New Year's celebration in the US is because it's the oldest.
