Re: digital TV signals

I would suggest going to TVFool.com and creating a map. The Grand River makes a loop as it goes from Ada to Belmont to downtown GR. Are you by any chance just south of the river in the loop area? If so, then it is a height issue. That area is too low and the towers down toward Middleville and Gun La...

Re: digital TV signals

Any good antenna for this area will need to have elements almost 3 feet wide in order to capture or reflect those VHF signals--about 1/2 the wavelength. Anything smaller won't be reliable unless you are relatively close to the transmitter. Some of those "space ship" and related antennas look cool, b...

Re: Northern Michigan dual TV channel ID

These would do the job for WTOM and others. They should put four networks on one of the two like WBKB 11. Since you bring up both WTOM and WBKB, in an ideal world, what would it be like if WTOM would have found themselves closer to Alpena? WBKB transmits all four networks, but only two are in high ...

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10

They figured out what happened relatively quickly. The thing that tripped them up more was how they needed a UHF antenna. I think they connected the rabbit ears to the UHF input. Some days it would come in. Others it would not.

Re: Why It Was WMSB On Channel 10

I was in 2nd grade during the switch from 10 to 23. The teacher would play The Electric Company every morning. One day, a game show came on instead. She didn't know what happened. We lost our in-class TV time and favorite show. It took them weeks before they figured out what happened and how to get ...

All I see is a greedy satellite provider versus a greedy media provider. A pox on both your houses.

Retro TV on WLLA 64

Does anyone know what happened? They have a constant screen message saying that Retro TV has been removed due to inappropriate commercial content. Their Facebook page suggests that they didn't like some of the national advertisers of Retro TV's late-night programming. I looked at their web page (wll...

Re: The Broadcasting Landscape is about to be changed

Does anyone else remember those little boxes from Radio Shack that would map the FM band down to AM so you could receive FM stations on the car's AM radio? Perhaps soon we will see little boxes that that do the opposite--remap AM stations to FM.

Re: RIP Aris Hampers

Aris changed my life. Part of my decision to move to West Michigan was to be able to listen to the awesome music he introduced to us during his weekday afternoon and weekend shows. Perhaps I would have discovered the likes of Camel, Marillion, Renaissance and so many other progressive-rock bands wit...

Re: Tony Gates Pulled From WLAV

When I was at LAV in '90 or '91, they brought in Lee Abrams and his genius idea at the time was to play only brief hooks from songs because "that's the only part people really want to hear". After all, what better way to play more music than the competition? At the time, we were getting our a$$es h...
