Hugh Downs

Former 2020 host Hugh Downs died at the age of 99. (not to be insensitive but I didn't know he was still alive.)

Re: Old TV and Movie Cliches

[q I was actually asking on Facebook recently what the name of the "Lifetime movie trope where the killer is pointing a gun and monologueing, giving someone a chance to knock it away". Lol. Do you know what it is called? I'm not sure if their is an actual word for it. I just called it the "End Of Ev...

Re: Carl Reiner dies at 98

Does anyone remember watching The Dick Van Dyke Show on channel 9 in the 70's or early 80's? (If you do you probably also remember Bill Kennedy.) Was it ever on any other station in the area? Also does anyone remember The 2000 Year Old Man? Interviewer / Tell me, did you have a national anthem? 2000...

Re: Benny Mardones dies

Does anyone out there think Neil Diamond's Girl You'll A Woman Soon is kind of icky? One of the songs on Van Morrison's Astral Weeks is Cypress Avenue. In it A man is watching a young schoolgirl walking down the street. The last lyrics mentions she's fourteen years old. Lester Bangs mentioned this i...

Are pagers still being used?
Pagers are used in doctor's offices and restaurants to alert people when they are ready. The medical office I go to uses them, (I can't tell you which one due to privacy.)

Re: Movies/Tv

I kind of agree with your idea. About four and a half years ago I suggested a Movies section but he response was lukewarm. Whenever I want to talk about a certain TV show I tend to put it under the Network And Cable TV section.
My personal fave a few months back was "AP Bio" as the writer most definitely lived in Toledo, and the Toledo references were enough to keep me watching all 13 episodes. It was a Lorne Michaels/Seth Myers production, good cast, just needed more...
And was it Rita Bell who had Prize Movie on channel 7?
It was. She hosted the show from 1960 to 1981. It seemed every Thanksgiving they'd show The Yogi Bear Movie, but I'm not 100 percent sure on that. Also the Bing Crosby Bob Hop...

The Ghost Of Bill Kennedy

This afternoon Channel 50 is showing two films from the 60's, Barefoot In The Park and That Touch Of Mink. This is something you would see on Bill Kennedy back in the 70's early 80's. I'm not sure who made this decision but I applaud it.
There’s Clio that they call “Cleo”. There used to be a Friday Night Football Scoreboard Show on WJR, and they had an announcer from Ohio who used to mispronounce numerous city names in Michigan. Wisconsin town names are difficult, thoug...
A brand new add to local spot rotation, to annoy the hell out of you: 877-50-FLOOR "Call 8-7-7 Fifty FLOOR and we'll come knockin' at your door" This jingle sounds like it could be from the same house of musical art that birthed "My Pillow ...

Re: Mad TV

Not to be a smart ass but Fridays was on from 1980 to 1982, (three seasons. 58 episodes.) Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator Larry David was also a cast member. Other cast members Melanie Chartoff, Maryedith Burell, and Bruce Maher made appearances on Seinfeld. It was canned because Nightline...
