Re: Misheard Song Lyrics

When I was younger, I never could figure out why the Christmas Carol "Jingle Bells" sang about a "One Whore Soap and Sleigh"

Re: Radio And the year you Graduated.

I graduated in 1975. On the west side of Michigan, I listened to the following on my AM-Radio Only car radio : WLS,-890, WCFL:-1000, WOKY-920, WLAV-1340, WTRU-1600, and WMAX-1480. In the house, with an AM/FM radio available, I also listened to WGRD-97.9, WLAV-FM 96.9, WVGR-104.1, and WLRQ-95.3.

Re: Is this something that Comcast could fix?

Have the same problem with Charter standard-def. (Free HD, my ass!) WXMI and WWMT get full-screen cutoff (except during NFL games!?!). WOOD-TV and WZZM, among others, are "letterboxed" so the full widescreen signal is shown (albeit with a black space at the top and bottom of the picture). It may be ...

Re: February 2017 Tropos

We are slated to get a very powerful warm spell starting around the 19th--temps could be in the upper 50s and lower 60s for up to 5 or six days. Such a strong "punch" to the troposphere could result in some interesting FM (and TV) reception, IMO.

We'll see, but be on the watch for it!

Re: Why do most Chicago stations transmit with low wattage?

I know their sticks are tall but when I was there WKQX was getting drowned out in the outer suburbs by ESPN Radio out of St. Louis. B 96 was also getting interference from Now 96.3 from St. Louis. I also found all their signals can be choppy at times in most of the suburbs but they can travel prett...

Re: PBS Channel Tampa Bay to Go Dark

Greed, schmeed. It's about an irrelevant, stodgy network with rapidly aging (soon to die) viewers who will take the stations down with them. There's no reason for PBS to exist anymore, and WUSF is just taking an easy way out of a bad conundrum.

Re: Could this be the end of the road for WBAI in NYC?

Edit: Since there's no sale of WBAI immediately pending, expect the Pacifica looneys to continue to labor to keep WBAI in their hands, even if they end up broadcasting from a telephone pole in Manhattan with 100 watts. They just can't picture the world being able to exist without their exalted progr...

KNAC lives on only as a website. KNAC-FM, the actual radio station, changed format and probably call letters several years ago.

Re: 640/810

810 has had transmitter trouble and they are in the process of getting it fixed. I think that it is still on the air, but at real low power until the transmitter is fixed. 810 has been shut down per Boomer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Shut down permanently ? If so, then 93.3 is illegal and m...

640/810

Whazzup with these two stations? WMFN-640 has been off the air for several weeks. And now WMJH-810 has been dark for at least a week (the two stations had simulcast before 640 went off). I can't tell if the 93.3 "translator" is still on (I am too close to WMPA's 93.1 transmitter). I read that FCC ru...

Re: WTMY

I find it depressing that radio is so herd-oriented. There should be a spot on the radio dial for non-rock music (and I include "country" in that rock category, unless it's a rare station that REALLY goes back into the archives from 50 years ago. Most "country" is just redneck rock, and pretenders l...

Re: WGHN-AM translator is on

94.9 was something of a mash-up anyway here in the Grand Haven area before the WGHN translator signed on the air. Over the summer, I regularly heard WKZC, GR-94.9, WMMQ, WSJM-FM, and sometimes WOLX (Wisconsin), sometimes one at a time, and sometimes several at once. It's almost the equivalent of an ...

WGHN-AM translator is on

The 94.9 FM translator for WGHN-AM-1370 is now on the air. Its monaural signal covers the Grand Haven/Spring Lake/Ferrysburg area very well. Not sure how far beyond that area it gets out.
