Re: WFYC/Alma - Jon Heinlen

Thanks, CK. That clears up a lot. I remember working the night shift, and Sommerville hotlines me from the golf club: "Read the damn golf scores!" Apparently a little inebriated, he wanted each and every score read on air as they came in from the Masters for his golf buddies. Other than that, he was...

Re: WFYC/Alma - Jon Heinlen

Mikus! That is/was his name. Thanks. Dave Somerville is still the owner? He must be at least 90. Then again, I thought he was old when I was there, but I was just 21 or 22, so anyone over 30 was old, so what did I know? But he must have been about 50 when I was there, and that was almost 40 years ago.

Re: WFYC/Alma - Jon Heinlen

I worked there 1980-81. The name does not ring a bell. The PD at the time was Phil....um, can't remember his last name. Thomas?

Sorry. That doesn't help much.

Re: Holy Shnikies! What’s wrong with that Marysville council candidate?

Really? WHLS-AM and WSAQ-FM are Port Huron SOL, aren't they?

Sorry to hear about Port Huron's demise. I worked there in the early '80s. Lived south of downtown off Military, and would walk or bike-ride to work at WPHM and home early morning. Nothing scary at all back then.

Re: THE HILLS ARE ALIVE IN PORT HURON

That's sad to hear. The PD (can't remember his name) seemed like a good guy with some cred in AOR. I interviewed with him in Harbor Springs (I was in Lansing at the time) and then met Howard in AA. He was strange.

Re: The "personality" of radio stations

Just about every radio station I worked for scheduled stop-sets at :20, :35 and :50 past the hour. Sometimes the :20 break would give way to an extended music sweep, but the :35 and :50 breaks were pretty standard across the board. Pretty much every station did spot breaks at the same approximate t...

Re: THE HILLS ARE ALIVE IN PORT HURON

That sounds like the format of a sign-on FM in Harbor Springs/Petoskey around 1988. I almost went to work there. Would have been interesting.

What station Oo KRKO 1380 is a Classic Hits/Oldies Format with some 60’s influences and and a bit of 80’s but mainly 70’s plus Sports part time, a very male demographic station. That sounds a lot like WWPZ/1340 Petoskey when i worked there in the mid-1980s. Fun little station. Played a lot of '60s,...

Re: Newspaper Website Redesign

Newspaper videos are just bad. Please stop! As to the funny video watching: I was at the gym today, and the person working there was chatting with Loud Guy and then they started watching comedians on video on her phone. It was irritating. Especially Loud Guy. That guy is always in the gym, it seems....

Max Koch! That was/is his name. He recruited me to work there in the early '80s. Super-nice guy. I can't believe he is still there.

Re: WLEW on-air mispoken words

You worked at the Orange??? I was there for oldies, a bankruptcy and the debut of the AOR format. I still hear from Pat now and again. Ted and I are friends to this day. I also worked in the market at 96 Super Q and WRCC. Small world. Yes, I worked at WOOJ for 2 whole weeks. Moved to Florida for a ...

Re: WLEW on-air mispoken words

Great topic. As a former professional radio broadcaster, I sure had my share of goofs.

First time I came across INXS was 1984, WOOJ/Fort Myers, Florida. I pronounced it "Inks." Who knew?
