Re: WJIM stations

I had one passing experience with Hal, I mean literally! I was visiting the WJIM-TV, where a former classmate worked, in the spring of 1979 for a writing project. I found everyone there most helpful and courteous. But as I was walking in the hallway leading toward the reception area and the dining h...

Re: Fred Heumann out

The last sentence in that article "WLNS-TV is owned by Nexstar Media Group" says all that needs to be said about why Fred Heumann is out. MESSTAR has a track record of crapping on good people in the stations they buy and exalting crappy people. "To hell with a good product, save a buck at all costs ...

Re: Worst TV Clowns in The 60s and 70’s

"Mr. Patches" who aired briefly (Thank God for small favors) on Sunday Mornings on WXYZ-TV. I believe he was replaced by the "Hot Fudge" show, which had more success. And then there was the mid-day fiasco that aired on WKBD under the name "Cousin' Cyrus", a stereotypical farmer/hick with coveralls, ...

Re: CICO-32 in Windsor

Actually, they might have switched to 19 to reflect the parent station's original analog channel, which was on Channel 19 in Toronto. But that's just a guess on my part.

Re: CBSDetroit62

CBS closed on the purchase of 62 months later, as correctly pointed out by CircleWXYZ, because Joel Ferguson challenged the sale to keep an important local voice and minority program going and hoped he'd be able to buy it or at least become a partner. But even as the challenge process was playing o...

Re: CBSDetroit62

You're correct that WGPR stood for "Where's God's Presence Radiates". But that slogan evolved, or so I've read, from 107.5's original location in Grosse Pointe. WGPR-FM originally stood for "Grosse Pointe Radio".

Re: Breaking: Meredith to possibly exit the TV business

Another private equity firm wants to get into an industry that they know NOTHING about. I cannot blame Meredith for grabbing a $2-billion carrot. But there's only one outcome, especially if the heads of private equity firms are children of or devotees of Gordon Gekko's philosophies. They'll trim as ...

Re: Two Anchors Out at WLNS

Graham Wellingham asked: "What's up with this place?" I can sum it up in three words: NEXSTAR MEDIA GROUP. Perry Sook and company follow a pattern that, unfortunately, has become all too common in the industry. They have stars in their eyes about becoming media moguls. They buy up or merge with com...

Re: CBSDetroit62

RingtailedFox is correct about CBS pursuing WADL for an affiliation agreement. I believe compensation was only one issue that drove CBS away from 38. I believe (I don't know for certain) I did hear CBS also wanted a commitment to creating a news department from the get-go. That was something Adell j...

As terrible as Palin is, I would have much rather had John McCain these last eight years than the disaster that is Barack Obama. http://www.greenchilisage.com/content/uploads/2015/09/Facebook-shot.jpg Sorry you're having such a struggle with simple things as facts.
