Re: Let's talk about the merits of the NY case against Trump
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the feds review this case prior and decide to not prosecute? This is like if some state charged Hillary Clinton with state-level crimes tied to federal-level felonies over her handling of classified emails after Loretta Lynch had already decided not to prosecute.

Re: Let's talk about the merits of the NY case against Trump
You are correct, paying Stormy to keep her mouth shut, after the sex haha, is shady but legal. Saying it was a loan...is not legal. That's not how I interpret what the prosecution is arguing. I think the allegation is that Cohen's payment to Daniels constitutes a loan to the Trump campaign. Had Tru...

Re: Let's talk about the merits of the NY case against Trump
As such, the only thing I see at issue in the Trump case is specifically the $130,000 payment by Cohen to Daniels and whether that payment falls under campaign finance disclosure laws - which, it is hard to know which specific laws are in question since Bragg refused to even put in the indictment th...

Re: Let's talk about the merits of the NY case against Trump
I was going to say - RT's definition of election interference and fraud is WAY too overbroad. Otherwise, people like Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey would be sitting in prison for their role in colluding with the Biden administration to outright censor (ie, Hunter Biden laptop, Covid 19 origins) or ...

Let's talk about the merits of the NY case against Trump
I've been reading a lot of different articles summarizing what the prosecution is arguing and speculation on what they intend to argue, and the crux of their case appears to be that Trump directed Cohen to pay $130,000 to Daniels, in exchange for which she would enter into a non-disclosure agreement...

Re: Mary L. Trump, also a grifter
That Twitter post was so over-the-top dramatic that I don't know who would subscribe to her newsletter other than people who get off at the thought of Trump in prison, like Lester the Nightfly. "In another room, Letitia James was fighting to reinforce Donald’s bond, a symbolic gesture that signals t...

Re: 2024 Presidential Primary Polling Thread
What about your beloved predictit showing Biden as a clear favorite? I would hardly call placing a 55% chance on a Biden victory a "clear favorite," nevertheless there has been some movement in Biden's direction over the past 2 weeks on PI. The wisdom there, just reading through some of the comment...

Re: 2024 Presidential Primary Polling Thread
Beemer? Not much to comment on, at least not yet. 2 outlier polls isn't exactly a trend. No poll since November has had Biden any more than +2, so Biden +5 looks to be, by definition, an outlier. Now if Trump starts losing ground in the Rasmussen, Emerson, or Economist/Yougov polls that are taken a...

Re: 2024 Presidential Primary Polling Thread
Also, it varies a lot state-by-state. In Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Nevada, Trump's margin is about 2-3 points bigger in a 5-person race than a 2-person race. The opposite is true in Michigan. Wisconsin is a wash. Nationally, Trump does about 1 point better in a 5-person race. I don'...

Re: Biden makes false and misleading claims during Pennsylvania campaign swing
Biden sucks way less and has kept the economy stable. Trump is incapable of that. That makes Biden immune to criticism? Is that your claim? That when he does things that would otherwise be worthy of criticism, that because Trump is worse in your opinion, Biden deserves a free pass? That is what is ...

Re: Reauthorization of Surveillance Program Violates 4th Amendment
As much as I generally distrust the federal government to do much of anything without abusing its power, the need for national security, much like any other kind of security, is a delicate balancing of individual rights against the broader want of society to be safe and secure. You have to inherentl...

Re: Biden makes false and misleading claims during Pennsylvania campaign swing
Is it fair for me to say that those of you who will ultimately vote for Joe Biden this fall are mentally and physically incapable of criticizing him without invoking Donald Trump? For all the complaints of "whataboutism" you people have had through the years here, you are the group that is most guil...

Re: Saying "Illegal Alien" in the classroom may get you suspended
This conversation has strayed from the original question of, should a child be suspended for using the phrase "illegal alien" in a classroom? Yes, the "right wing media" as you call it does focus a lot of their attention on the issue of illegal immigration. You and I can differ in opinion on how big...
