Re: Internet over the Airwaves?

The idea of "Super WiFi" has been around for a while - the idea was to use "white space" between tv channel frequencies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Wi-Fi Its implementation, however, is quite limited. On a side note, I remember years back I helped a cousin of mine set up a wifi satellite di...

Re: WBKB Footage Unearthed... At Last!

Growing up in northern Michigan without cable TV in the 1990s, channel 11 was the only channel we could reliably receive. I have vivid memories of all of those weather graphics.

Nice find.

Re: Washington Post Praises Gov. Whitmer's Gas Tax Proposal

Doing FAR MORE damage to my vehicle than the bad roads is the excessive amounts of salt they've been putting on the roads the past few winters. I'm surprised nobody is questioning whether it is excessive and the environmental impacts not to mention the accelerated rusting of the under-sides of vehic...

Re: Washington Post Praises Gov. Whitmer's Gas Tax Proposal

Also conveniently left out of the article is Whitmer's plan to partially offset the tax increase by doubling the Earned Income Tax Credit from 6% of the federal credit to 12%. So the new gas tax isn't really raising $2.5 billion if some of that money is just being redistributed to the poor. I'd be c...

Can Deleted Users be moved here?

Seems like this place lately is becoming littered with people creating accounts, posting a lot, then deleting their account, then creating a new one. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. I suspect it is just a few select people doing this but it really clutters up the board. Can those "Deleted Users" posts be moved...

Air pollution caused by whites disproportionately breathed in by blacks

This reads like something from The Onion. But nope....USA Today.... Blacks and Hispanics disproportionately breathe air that's been polluted by non-Hispanic whites, according to a study. This new research quantifies for the first time the racial gap between who causes air pollution – and who breathe...

Re: 96.3 wkla format tweak

Interesting. Quite a few recent stiffs on that playlist (i.e. "Filthy"). I take it this means they dropped the Westwood One format? Westwood One's take on CHR or Adult CHR or Hot AC or whatever they call it is seriously the driest, most boring format I've ever heard in my life. 104.9 WQBX Alma and ...

Re: Gretcholm wants to raise fuel taxes by 45 cents/gallon by 2020

It took them SEVEN and a half DAMN MONTHS to re-do a 5.5 mile stretch just north of East Tawas on US-23. And they're NOT EVEN DONE YET - they had to call it quits in November and will finish up this spring.

That's less than a mile a month on a mid-size highway.

Re: Gretcholm wants to raise fuel taxes by 45 cents/gallon by 2020

People incur an additional $562 per year in damage to their vehicle due to poor roads as compared to if the roads were better?

I'm not buying it.

He was a one-of-a-kind - growing up his movies were some of my favorites, with Planes Trains and Automobiles at the top of that list and Uncle Buck a close second.

Re: Celebrate the Communist Manifesto with me

You also can't compare a theoretical Communist utopia to an actual capitalist form of government and all of its shortfalls; either compare Communism in its actual, tried forms to our government as it actually exists or compare both at a theoretical level. I would suggest that ours wins in either com...

Re: Celebrate the Communist Manifesto with me

Whether it "works" isn't even the point. The point is that under Communism, you must give up significant individual freedom. At a purely philosophical level, it is not the role of the government to tell man how to run his affairs.

Re: The dishonest national media's reporting on 2018 tax bills

Straight from NPR:
The reasons for these smaller refunds vary. For most people, it's because each paycheck has grown slightly, thanks to reduced withholding. On balance, they are likely to come out ahead.
Enough said.
