Re: May 2024 Ratings
So I will throw a question out to anyone. Do you know the length of time PPM panelists wear the meters? Per day? Total length? I'll hang up and wait for an answer. Here's a hint: It will answer some of the questions about stations' performance in the past few months... I actually was an Arbitron "f...

If you look at the menus or the websites of any of the Coney joints in the area they all use the term "chili" or "chili sauce." You can buy "National Coney Island Hot Dog Chili Sauce" at Kroger. There are lots of kinds of chili. Texas chili isn't Cincinnati chili isn't Oklahoma chili isn't the kind ...

Re: New MC5
I was an avid listener of the free form FM stations in Detroit in the early 70s and never remember the MC5 being played even once. I think the only time I've heard the MC5 on the radio (besides college stations) was once in the early 80s I heard Looking at You on an AM oldies station on the other s...

Re: CKWW sounds like hot garbage
Doing errands this morning I was listening to CKWW in the car- It sounded worse than ever - thin, tinny, shrill. Just a bunch of distorted treble. I'm wondering if anyone has gotten to the bottom of this. I've listened to them for years so I know what it should sound like.

Re: Thoughts on the Current State and Potential Future of Detroit Radio
Maybe 15 years ago the "death" of the print magazine was considered common knowledge; everything would be going digital. But have you seen the magazine selection lately in Barnes & Noble or Books-a-Million? There must be 1,000 titles. Many people still like to read physical books and magazines. How ...

Re: Thoughts on the Current State and Potential Future of Detroit Radio
Other than for traffic and pro or college sports, when is the last time you turned on AM? Every day while shaving, in the car, in the kitchen, working in the garage, gardening, sometimes listening to far-away stations at night for fun. Last year the FCC estimated that there are still 47 million in ...

Re: Thoughts on the Current State and Potential Future of Detroit Radio
Look at the night pattern of our humble WJR: https://nf8m.com/pattern_maps/current/NIGHTTIME-UNLIMITED/NIGHTTIME-UNLIMITED_760KHz-1.html When you can reach literally half of North America who can listen almost anywhere and for free, with radios already in their houses and cars, that's still an extra...

Thoughts on the Current State and Potential Future of Detroit Radio
A radio provides instant free voice and music almost anywhere, with incredible potential. But a trip down the dial today offers not much more than Journey, The Eagles, Sean Hannity, and endless commercials for roofing contractors. That doesn’t have to be the inherent default. In past days Detroit ha...

Thanks; I always confuse the WCFS/WBBM-FM thing.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Tue May 21, 2024 5:02 pm780 & 105.9 in Chicago have been reported on a joint basis for a long time. They haven't been listed on a separate basis for years. Remember, 105.9's calls remain WCFS. "WBBM-FM" belongs to their CHR sister station, B96.

Re: April Ratings
WBBM has a full powered FM. 780 isn’t even promoted during reports. WABC has an FM repeater on Long Island- not sure how much that factors into ratings. WBBM AM and FM are rated separately by Nielsen, with FM way down the list. In any case, are you trying to argue that WJR's 1.7 share is inevitable...

Re: April Ratings
WJR at 1.7, perhaps an all time low. Who is fired first? I still cannot fathom how this station was able to squander its golden history and massive signal with such uncreative and lackluster programming. WJR does well. They have strong billing numbers. Many advertisers and they hold their own. Drew...

Right now they are playing Journey's "Any Way You Want it." Honestly, what kind of advertiser wants to reach the demographic of someone happy to have heard that song 10,950 times in the last 30 years, besides Mountain Dew?
