Re: Getting The Hell Out Of Saginaw, Bay City And Flint

Geez, dudes... is it THAT freakin' hard to realize that BOTH parties are nothing but a bunch of corrupt, self-serving crooks anymore? When people come to understand that fact, maybe things might get a bit better. I'm not gonna hold my breath though.

"affluent Flintoids"

I think those 8 people have left in the '90's.

Re: Super Bowl Commercials 2019

I just don't do sports anymore. That said, I find it almost disturbing in some way that people are tuning into drivel like this FOR THE AD CONTENT! Personally, if I never had to hear or see another ad in my life, I'd die a happy man. I just can't understand why someone would CHOOSE to watch somethin...

WHO is writing this stuff?

Maybe it's just me, but it sure seems like commercials, especially on TV, are just plain stupid anymore. As in, "that was somehow funny to the writer, but everyone else missed it". I often wonder if this is a symptom of copy writers on designer drugs? Perhaps they younger generation really has no cr...

Re: Time-Life Music on CD

I have a few of their comp CD's. That said, I have nearly every song on the CD's on original vinyl anyways.

Re: Hulu or Netflix?

I've considered signing up to Netflix for the new David Attenborough "Our Planet" series coming up. Beyond that, I don't know that I would really have much use for it. Of course, I'm sure I can find the series uploaded on USENET at some point. But I have two years to get something to replace DirecTV...

Is Curiosity Stream from the same people as the Curiosity app? If so, I love it.
I'm not sure... I've never heard of the Curiosity app... what is it?

Re: SiriusXM and Cancellations

I'm probably the only person on the planet who has never even tried SatRad. Our Mitsu Outlander has an XM radio, but I have no intention of signing up. I have developed a strong distrust of media corporations in general. We just told Comcrap to stick it, now stick with AT&T/Directv and will probably...

Re: Metro Detroit CB

I've been hunting around for an older 40-channel SSB rig for cheap. I saw a decent Cobra 142, but it got past what I was willing to bid for it. You just missed the Toledo Swap this past weekend. You can always find CB's at a ham swap for $10-20 bucks. The GM Club's swap is on April 7th starting at ...

Re: Is HD Radio Dead Yet!

I've heard ONE station on AM in HD, and it wasn't impressive. I do not have an HD-capable radio of any kind. Ironcally, I have three which can decode C-QuAM and probably five more which can be modified quite easily to do so, if I wanted to. Every now and then, I tune my Realistic TM-152 with a rando...

Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?

I recall in the late 70's, I'd sometimes scan across the TV dial for stations coming in on unused channels. I remember an Ohio station on I think it was channel 8 would come in from time tot time, and a station on channel 3 from I think it was Illinois or Indiana. Over the years, I have caught many ...

Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?

We used to go to Tampa, FL for a few weeks every spring up until 1979. I always tried to see if any local station from Flint would come in there. I heard WTAC a few times, WTRX and WFDF once. WOWO seemed to always come in there, albeit after midnight. I wonder now when I actually slept when I was a ...

I've heard stories of people getting radio signals on their tooth fillings.
Me, when working at WTRX and WTAC. Not really audible, but more like "buzzing to the high end sibilance". I have for years, and still occasionally do, hear CHU Canada on turntables when the headshell is removed.

Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?

AM... stateside, KFI ONCE. One early morning in the summer of '76, while tuning to 550kHz to try to hear KFYR, I was surprised to hear KMVI in Hawaii coming in instead. White's listed it as 5kW. EDIT: I also got KVOK in Kodiak, Alaska once while hunting for WHBQ on 560. Those 1kW low-band stations a...
