Re: WATZ cutting heads?

Perfect market for Townsquare - they could run the whole thing from GR with some local sales people hanging around. (Look at what Midwest is doing in a few markets) I take it you've never run a radio station; nor recruited, staffed, trained and maintained local sales talent? I've hired, fired, abus...

Re: WATZ cutting heads?
I look at what happened to Northern broadcasting and I don't have much hope that they're going to walk away feeling whole.
But you forget, Gokey entrusted the group in the hands of a poor operator under the auspices of an LMA leading to purchase. When that didn't materialize, he so...

Outstanding choice, gets a full ADD/ADHD seal of approval.
Good selection of music... but the imaging is a more than a bit mundane. Very canned sounding; not what you'd hope in a new station launch.

Re: What’s This?

It is definitely stunting; the new format will almost certainly be Country. The incumbent Country stations are largely territorial in terms of geography. Big Country 102.9 has no real competition in the northern reaches of the market and bills well. It makes sense to target them. I will say adding ...

Re: 106.7 on the air?

Actually if you think about, they could move the Bob format over to 106.7, freeing up TC's 104.5 to be simulcast with the 104.7/1340 "The Ticket" combo in Petoskey, which would give the market an FM sports presence, which would be separated in the evenings for local high school sports coverage in th...

Re: Mark Pennington joins The Bear for mornings

My prediction is that Black Diamond will hire the most popular and talented people who were discarded by Big Corporate Owners in Detroit, and use them to build statewide networks of same format stations that they acquire and LMA. When they have a big enough network, they will be able to deliver com...

Re: Smitty

Yuck. I absolutely HATE Shinedown's music from the past decade +. There's no reason to turn KLT completely upside down. Very gradual evolution of the playlist over time is what needs to occur (a strategy the station might already be utilizing; I don't listen often enough to know). Yes, I suppose th...

Re: Smitty

I think WKLT owns the market for Classic Rock in the North. It has an all star live Jock line up and coverage nobody can compare with. If as in "allstar" you mean stale and irrelevant. KLT needs a major refresh of some sort. Even WRIF eventually identified they needed to go for a younger audience (...

Re: 106.7 on the air?

One might imagine this is satisfy the minimum FCC requirements, as Northern is likely between STAs... and there's still a deal to be closed at some point. I imagine once they satisfy the minimum requirement for WSRT, they'll begin running the same on audio WFDX 92.5, as it's been off, as well.

It was announced today that Ann Carlini after 30 years at WRIF will join Rock 105 and 95.5. She will be doing mid days. She and her husband have moved up from the Detroit area. This is a major market move by Black Diamond! Also they have purchased stations in the Midland area. Well, I think Anne wa...

Re: Worst-sounding radio stations of all-time.

Driving down I-75, I caught WQON-FM the other day. It sounded as if they were playing songs directly from You Tube... or from a Memorex cassette recorded in the mid-80's (and pulled from a dusty shoebox). It doesn't help that the processing isn't good, but the audio quality I heard was some of the w...

Re: WJML

Wow, the existing configuration sure didn't last long! Wasn't Cadillac added just a couple years ago? I'm a little surprised Benzie is being dropped given its relatively close proximity to Traverse City. Clearly the amount of daily commuter traffic from Benzie to TC is far greater than it would be ...

Re: WJML

You are correct, though, to suggest TC-Petoskey market stations generally aren't worried about listenership in Manistee County. It's why Manistee, Benzie and Wexford Counties are being dropped from the new Nielsen metro that is now TC-Petoskey (Cadillac has been dropped from it). The other eight co...
