Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits

How did you know that it was wrong, and was the 60 dBu, MW? That is what I expected you to answer. You didn't deny it was Denny Moon. There are a number of "activist" engineers who try to stand in the way of otherwise reasonable applications and authorizations. It's really funny then when the FCC ch...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits

Actually, I figured it out before I posted. I suspected it was the 60 dBu, but I was having a hard time matching up maps without Peter's software available. Actually, I wanted to see if ANYONE noticed. I want to warn some of you, I have contacted the FCC recently on applications that were incomplete...

Re: Will WJR Soon Drop Talk For All News?

Wasn't our Z-Rock at 102.7 at least partially local? Or did someone just license the name? It lasted here for about 4 years until it switched The Bear. In it's last year or two it was pretty much Z-Rock in name only, though. WDLZ 1330 was apparently largely local, and actually had some responsible ...

Re: Will WJR Soon Drop Talk For All News?

I measured the WJR field strength near where the 5 mV/m predicted contour approximately is in Flint. I measured it at about 3 mV/m. In 48503, near where the CBD and Municipal Offices are located, V-Soft Zip Code shows 5.23 mV/m based on M-3. In 48505, the North part of Flint, based on M-3 on V-Soft,...

Re: MW DX

... I don't think the solid state radios were quite as good. Then around 1970, they went to the windshield antennas, which were a disaster as far as sensitivity. It took few years for the Delco GM engineers (and much later clients of mine) to figure out how to optimize this. For a more recent examp...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits

You must have asked Denny Moon. I knew that. Just wanted to know if you noticed that fccdata.org has a lot of errors and limitations, like not displaying DAs properly, and still no Canadian stations in a lot of searches. However, my assertion still stands about the 54 dBu. It really doesn't reach th...

Re: Will WJR Soon Drop Talk For All News?

Drove thru Saginaw area back in 1989, and my Delco radio cranked out AM Stereo rock tunes from a station up there- audio quality was smokin as were the tunes; it was quite a nice surprise near Frankenmuth. That was WDLZ-Rock 1330. Colonel Flagg is an expert on this. After "Z-Wreck" (the Colonel's w...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits

To those of you with a fuzzy view of where WIOT's protected 54 dBu contour extends, here is a map. It barely gets out of Monroe County into Wayne and Washtenaw, and that's sparsely populated. https://www.fccdata.org/?facid=&call=WIOT&ccode=1&city=&state=&country=US&zip=&arn=&party=&lmspf=&lmspl=&par...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits

I thought that Newton Minow had an agenda back then, but his term "vast wasteland" to describe TV programming then now applies to the sea of interference that now describes FM. With many stations leaving the AM dial completely in Canada, and quite a few in the US, the AM band has become very listena...

Re: The New K107.3 Flint's Classic Hits

I don't know if the 104.7 translator was operating legally or not. However, the new "super translators" operating in Detroit cause de facto interference to MANY stations that were formerly available. This may be from other unknown factors about the transmission systems. The FM propagation model used...

STA 880 W H, 880 W V, ANT COL 16.5 METERS AGL, HAAT -36.2 METERS. They have a few months left on the STA. I hope the FCC doesn't delete the license, as it is a valuable facility, and much better than many others in the market. If it goes down, radio may die before it comes back on the air due to com...

FM Tropo Opening in Much of the Lower Peninsula Area

Has anyone noticed that there is a tropo opening on FM this afternoon? It's hard to tell without a very selective receiver though, since the band is so jammed up with squeeze ins and low power translators and stations. And probably not much near Detroit since there is so much IBOC sideband interfere...

Re: CKUE 95.1 Interference?

If you read that whole link (I'm going to just print it out), there's a WHOLE LOT of information. This antenna is small enough to be doable, and there's even a Home Depot version in the text, where the materials are quite easily available. Maybe the guy who's building Hovermans might give it a try a...

Re: CKUE 95.1 Interference?

One of the 95.1 translators is running out of time to build a CP. https://www.fccdata.org/?lang=en&appid=85a32f3caeb249f29d75c1b6063ebeb7&facid=202153 We all need to build an extremely directional decent gain tuned FM antenna like this one. http://ham-radio.com/k6sti/five.htm (Image removed by M.W. ...
