Re: CHYR Radio 7 Canada

Edited from History of Canadian Broadcasting site.

CJSP 710 became CHYR ("Cheer") on June 26, 1967. A License to operate the station at night-time, as CHIR on 730 kHz was issued August 2. Power was 10000 watts Day and 250 watts Night.

Re: WBBL gone

Lately, in a moving car, I've noticed that WDTK 1400 has a much more listenable signal in the Daytime than the translator on 101.5. People are acting like the AM doesn't exist. Night is a different story on Class IV/Cs like WJRW/WBBL/WTWN/WLAV. ABOUT W291DJ The GREEN contour on this map is the same ...

Re: am 1250 Saginaw

It just occurred to me that Jim McCluskey probably was planning to use the CHYR Method for WJCO/WDJD/WJKN to be Fulltime, like WNZK 690/680, but they granted that on the condition that it was a one time only grant, not to be repeated. He was most likely considering 1510/1520. No doubt he had talked ...

Re: am 1250 Saginaw

Funny you should mention WGRY (1590 Grayling, not 1370 Gary). A couple of weeks ago, I called John DeGroot down in Florida to see if he had any extra copies of "Living On Air", his Father Don's Autobiography, to sell. He didn't, and the only ones online were kind of beat up, missing covers, etc. So ...

Re: am 1250 Saginaw

Before I forget, "Gramps" will post the WVIC History Card. Hey, you kids, GET OFF MY LAWN! :rollin https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=68387 I think Schaberg wanted to put the 550 on the air somewhere, possibly 540, but 540 still has the 50...

Re: am 1250 Saginaw

Stanwood was WWTG 1070. I used to live on a hill overlooking the farms South of Big Rapids. I used to have dreams of being able to see a new AM Array out there, then tuning my radio with a signal strength meter, and having the signal barely moving from the bottom limit of the d'Arsonval range. Jack ...

Re: HD Noise Cancellers

Ed J., did you install CQAM at WTRX/WDLZ with Don McComb? Did they use it at WTRX? What happened to that exciter? Where did Kaufmans/Leytons get their CQAM exciter for WTAC Big 600 Talk And Oldies? Did you help with that installation? Art Vuolo got his Realistic AM Stereo Tuner to record U of M Foot...

Re: The Good Old Days of Full-Powered Analog TV

What new TVs will Gary Shapiro and the very lovely Dr. Susie introduce this week at the CES in Las Vegas? I'll probably find out soon.

Re: am 1250 Saginaw

I remember when quite a few stations have been on STA nondirectional, including WTRX. In the early days, I didn't know what was going on. The signal was suddenly stronger than ever. I lived in "Eastman's Null" about a block and a half from Bob's house on Greenbrook Lane. I talked to him a few times ...

Re: Hudson Tower (Building Under Construction) & Initial FM Collocation Analysis

With 12 kW at 305 meters/~1000 feet HAAT, the F(50,10) interfering contours actually pull in from the F(50,10) 50 kW at 150 meters/~500 feet HAAT interfering contours. Between that and the fact that second and third adjacent allotments across the border are negotiable, I don't think that Canadian al...

Re: am 1250 Saginaw

It was 640 in Kingsley. I thought it was David Schaberg, but it might have involved both of them. I think it was WJIM or WILS that were trying, possibly both competing for it, to move to 550. It's on the History Card. It was before what is now WRDT 560 came on and basically squeezed the 550 possibil...

Re: Hudson Tower (Building Under Construction) & Initial FM Collocation Analysis

OK, WQRS/WMGC was on the Book Building, and WWWW/WDTW, wasn't it once called by another name? Far to walk, but just a few blocks as the crow flies. Update: The building that WWWW/WDTW and WMXD are on is called the Cadillac Tower. Sections 73.207, 73.213, 73.215, and 73.333, Canadian and Lake Erie ov...

Re: Hudson Tower (Building Under Construction) & Initial FM Collocation Analysis

When I said "nearby", I meant compared to North of Eight Mile. None of the four listed are much above what would be called 5 Mile Rd. if extended. The ones that moved out from the Downtown and New Center general area were also similarly close. WJLB, in Highland Park, is the furthest North "outlier" ...

Re: am 1250 Saginaw

Jim McCluskey probably thought he could move WJKN to another frequency. Can't believe he didn't know. Sounds like a "McCluskey Legend". They moved KTGG 1540 from Spring Arbor to Okemos to open up WJKN 1510 as I recall. 1520 was/is a possibility, at least with a DA and PSSA.

Re: am 1250 Saginaw

I was in Flint yesterday and heard sports talk on 1250, too strong to be any out of town station, no breaks / promos / liners. What station could this be? WGL in Fort Wayne. That's my guess. Or.... WSSP from Milwaukee bounces in here in Flint from time to time. There are a bunch of 5kW stations dow...
