Re: WTOL (CBS) Toledo approved for power increase by FCC.

indlay should be covered on the Lima CBS/ABC channel "35" (RF's 18 WOHL/35 WAMS/27 WPNM). Not to be confused with the old "35," which is now WLIO 8, which is NBC and FOX. Cracks me up when Toledo stations cover out of market cities that have their own local news stations. In this case, "Your News N...

The last car we had with a tube car radio was a 1961 Oldsmobile, which we drove until 1965. We stayed a couple Summer vacations in a cottage on the South side of Crystal Lake. With the telescoping antenna fully extended, you could listen to WJR in the Daytime. I don't think the solid state radios w...

Re: Partial daytime AM Band Scan during power outage in Tawas City

CKLW hasn't had a very good signal to the Northwest in 40 years or more. There are different theories as to why that is. Some say the the pattern was officially changed at some point from what it was in the late 1940s, when they went from 5 kW nondirectional to 50 kW directional. They were 5 kW non...

Re: Below 88 mHz

Another possibility is that somebody in K8JD's neighborhood has one of those ubiquitous in-car transmitters, that provide an FM signal of the music they are streaming through their smartphones. In the Sporadic-E season, I will often listen just below 88MHz, to see if any micro-pirates are on, and to...

Re: Misuse of Ham Radio

A Disclaimer ANYONE can legally pruchase and use a GMRS or FRs channelled handheld radio . ANYONE can look at this and think it's "ham radio". Those handhelds used were PROBABLY Not the ones made for amateur radio operation, they were more likely the inexpensive FRS/GMRS radios. (almost "bur...

I get CBET pretty well, most of the time, but getting CHWI (main transmitter) requires a tropospheric opening. I've technically seen the Windsor translator, both as a weak analog signal, and later, as a PSIP response with ID.

Re: WSM classics show at midnight

In my morning commute, I usually listen to WNZK's "Motown and a cup-O-Joe" show, often flipping to WWJ at the hour, for the news, then going back to WNZK. But this time of year, I'll press the preset button for WSM, especially if WNZK is getting too much interference, or plays a ten-minute EP disc t...

Re: Classic Country

How many transistors does your radio have ? Who knows for sure? The answer may possibly be in the hundreds. I can hear you thinking that your radio doesn't have any transistors, and that it has integrated circuits. What's in an integrated circuit? -Plastic, tiny metal pins, resistors, and transisto...

Re: WNWO (NBC) Toledo granted FCC license for new 275 kW DTV transmitter.

Never understood why Toledo television stations broadcast with such low power? Is this an error by the FCC? Toledo vs. Dayton, mind you these are both midsize cities. Now Dayton area has much more terrain versus Toledo area which is mostly flat. However on the radio side it seems like Toledo statio...

Re: WLMB seeks a relocation to UHF

They should also move their antenna to somewhere in Ohio. If this move doesn't get approved, they should do channel sharing with one of the bigger Toledo stations. One idea I've had for awhile was to get WLMB to send My 48 on a 40.3 subchannel and have WMNT-CD put WLMB on a 48.5 subchannel. I think...

CBC redirected their signal according to several Canadians that have posted.
More importantly, The stopped using the wavestack that was a short walk from the Detroit River, and moved to the tower that CICO-32 and CBEFT-78/54 were on, near McGregor, about 10 miles further East.

Re: WLLZ isn't going to change, WIDL is where it's at

Interesting post, which brought to mind "crossovers". Whatever happened to crossovers on CHR radio? There's always been tailor-made Top 40 pop product, but I can vividly remember DRQ playing Fuel, Aerosmith, Blink 182, Green Day, and Faith Hill crossovers, amongst others. Rock, Alternative Rock, Ac...

Re: WLMB seeks a relocation to UHF

The more important problems are the 10kW maximum ERP and the fact that there are many antennas being sold that are not designed to receive waves that are several feet long. 60kW should be the standard ERP limit for ALL of the VHF channels, highband and lowband. (Or less, for stations in Zone I that ...

Re: WNWO (NBC) Toledo granted FCC license for new 275 kW DTV transmitter.

Hindsight is 20/20; WTOL and WTVG would have been better served with their old UHF CH 17 and CH19 transitional HDTV signals which had pretty decent coverage with just rabbit ears. Yes, it's nice to maintain your VHF heritage frequency that you've had since 1948/1958, but rabbit ears don't do so wel...
