Re: 1130 "The Fan" to disappear- iHeart launching new network

The website Awful Announcing had an article about the format flip. Mentioning how 1130 used to be the leader of sports talk in Detroit, but had its slow downfall starting on Obama's Inauguration day in 2009 when most of the local hosts were fired. I'll have to stream it on the internet to see what ...

I remember she had a call-in segment on Prize Movie where viewers could win a daily, growing jackpot if they could identify a few bars of a song she would play. To my then-young ears at least, the songs were very obscure.
If course, that couldn't work today - In the Shazam era😣

Re: Fake news WXYZ

Circle seven dropped the ball, yet again. During the 7pm newscast tonight, the reporter said there was a shooting at i-75 and Outer Drive, and said it was SW Detroit. Yet, it’s actually in Lincoln Park. The titles even said it was in Lincoln Park. Yet, this foolish field reporter said SW Detroit ag...

My new GM radio only searches for the next strong station on the dial. Doesn't allow tuning incrementally, one channel at a time.

WLEC changes formats and bumpers, seems to have gone Classic Hits

Driving home this afternoon, I was surprised to hear an ELO song, Johnny River's Secret Agent Man and America's Sister Golden Hair on WLEC, a complete shift in bumpers, and an announcer who is retiring. The new sound almost borders on Classic Hits. First impression is that it resembles the old WHNE ...

Interesting. I never knew that about Buena Vista until now.

In the 70's, we would go up north on our Vacation, and we always lunched at the Big Boy on M-46, in Buena Vista (sorry...Boona Visa) on the way up.

In those days, I only got to eat at a restaurant about three or four times a year.

Re: Most distant AM/FM/TV signal you ever tuned in?

I can’t seem to ever receive anything but static on 640, and I consider myself pretty well trained to listen for signals under the static. I feel like KFI is the gold standard for DXing in Metro Detroit. Once I can receive that, I’ll achieve my goal. So my (rhetorical) question is, what am I doing ...

Re: y'think this might be true? (AM DX)

A couple sources -- middle-level people inside the New York and New Jersey governors' offices -- have recommended that AM DXers in the Northeast and Midwest, and eastern Canada, not listen to radio stations whose transmitters are located in New York or New Jersey because the radio waves they send o...

Re: Weird Skip today in Sandusky Ohio

The Ionosphere was just right. May, June, July and early August is the Sporadic-E season. Sporadic-E is a layer about 100km of the Earth's surface that reflects radio waves back to Earth. Since the E-layer is closer to the earth than the F-layer, the distances are shorter than the F2 skip that is fa...

Re: Channel 31

One thing I've wondered about WADL. Could WADL move into Southeast Oakland County....... And just what would that cost the station in dollars and for what significant gain for them. It would allow viewers to receive WADL (and it's subs) even if they aren't directly WSW or ENE of the transmitter sit...

Re: CBSDetroit62

I have always wondered this. Why is such a high channel number like 62 being used? Originally specific channels were available in each television market. Detroit has available to it Channels 2,4,7,20, 38, 50, 56, 62. As most of you know Channel 62 was available in the sixties and WXON-TV applied fo...
