Re: Which Metro Detroit cities are declining and which are improving?

Last time in I was Marine City a year ago, downtown was mostly abandoned, both in people walking around and open businesses. How much of what you saw are summer tourists? Could things have somehow rapidly turned around in a year? I don’t think a place is improving just because channel 4 says so- I ...

Re: Your best ever car radio?

It was the only time I ever experienced AM stereo. Why did the broadcasting industry abandon that mode? A few reasons I've heard: 1. AM stereo was replaced with IBOC 2. Format changed to talk, no need for stereo 3. Coverage is lessened 4. Equipment failed and don't want to fix/replace..... Fallacy!...

Re: Comcast Removing Detroit and Lansing Channels

Wow.

Will Flint (where WFUM was sold off in the spectrum auction) be cut off from PBS entirely?

Is any PBS reliably available in flint?

Is there any available channel for a PBS translator?
Maybe 8?

Re: Big News regarding ESPN 1000, Chicago

WTMJ/WKTI are obviously still Nielsen subscribers via an inherited contract with Scripps, and 540 got carried over. I’d expect that contract to lapse at some point. 'TMJ is a MLB and NFL flagship. I'll bet you a beer that they are required by contract to be a Nielsen subscriber. WKNR doesn't subscr...

Re: 40 years ago in 1979

I forgot to mention that Traverse City, Michigan station "106 KHQ" (actually 105.9 FM) debuted on May 8, 1980. Did not heard that station until December of 1980 with the reel to reel tape & also the same announcer who would tell you the song by the artist or group as he did on "ROCK 106 WIOG"!!! I ...

Re: FCCdata.org Now Has Skywave Contours

I wonder what CHML looks like. It is quite a high-gain array. WLQV (better known by their former call WJBK) would be another. Back in the day, they blew 50kW into twelve towers (though their 5kw night signal in Grosse Pointe was not very good - Country was clearer on WSM that it was on WDEE). But, I...

I remember once in the late 70s, they ran "The Brady Bunch" and "Gilligan's Island" in reverse order one afternoon. Boy was I pissed! Perfectly great day RUINED!
Woulda been cool if the episode ended with only Marcia and myself on the island :-)

Re: WJR hits another all-time low and takes a big plunge from last month's already terrible numbers!

Some WWJ transmitter work could be ongoing. HD has been off the air for close to three weeks now. As a reminder, AM ground wave is always worse during hot, dry weather. This could be a factor in reception issues, too. Interesting thing about 1270's patterns: By day, their signal is awful in Ohio. E...

Re: 1690 WMLB

Being on 1690 in Central Georgia, its skywave signal is more important than its groundwave.

Putting anything on 1690 in Georgia is insane!

Re: Which Metro Detroit cities are declining and which are improving?

Hazel Park was a cheaper, working class town that now has a growing arts and culinary scene spilling over from Ferndale that has repurposed old buildings and brought higher education and income levels into the city. Ferndale itself continues to grow and change into a more modern and more expensive ...

Nearly noise-free at Scheafer and I-96 in The D during my lunch break today!

NO SIGN of WPON 1460, only a very weak Spanish station and a very weak news station.

Re: Can't Get WADL over Antenna

Under the old analog rules, any pair of UHF TV stations 14 or 15 channels apart had to be very far apart from each other (not because they directly interfered with each other, rather because they would cause intermodulation within the receiver, or because the local oscillator if one set would interf...
