Re: The State of TC/Northern Michigan Radio

Of the stations mentioned, only WTCM-FM, Rock 105/95.5, and the Bear put listenable signals over both Cheboygan and Manistee. Speaking of drive times, Manistee is closer to most of the big downstate west side cities (Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, and Muskegon just to name a few) than it is to C...

Re: Straits Country 97.7 and WMTE-FM 92,5 are going to be sold.

Wow I'm out of the loop.... when did WCHY switch to country?? When 95.3 and 97.7 were swapped between Black Diamond (now simulcasting the Bear at 95.3) and David Smith (his son Kent had been running Straits Country on 95.3 before the swap, which was close to two years ago). Now David Smith has sold...

Re: Mid-Michigan Now

Well, I made an error... UpNorthLive DID come about with Barrington. I was referring to the 6:30 29&8 UpNorthLive News, which was after Sinclair bought the stations. I *think* it was called "UpNorthLive News on 29&8" or something like that.

Re: Music squeeze on some stations

Two songs I recall that were released by the record companies notably faster on 45 rpm were Steely Dan's "Do it Again" and Bob Dylan's "Tangled up in Blue". The first example was especially egregious; when it was played on a turntable that was already sped up (as many were), it sounded like Alvin a...

Re: Mid-Michigan Now

Not much of a difference from previous from what I can tell. Except for the opening. I like that. Thinking it’s a Sinclair mandated thing given the “UpNorth Live” at their 7&4 stations in Traverse City. I think “UpNorth Live” was started while they were still owned by Barrington. I don't think so. ...

Re: Mid-Michigan Now

Exactly. In Dayton, one news operation covers two stations - ABC 22 and Fox 45. These stations still ID as "ABC 22" and "Fox 45" on air, including during newscasts. Because the news operation is unified, it makes sense to direct all web traffic to one web site instead of having two, separate web si...

Re: WXII Ch. 12 analog looks lousey on cable.

Whats with WXII? On Spectrum cable in TC they have flashing, lines, and bars in the picture. Also sound is bad, and sounds out of phase. Cosi TV net. has some good shows on but are un-watchable. It was like that back in 2011 when it was WLLZ. Charter in TC for some reason had Ch 4 auto-switch to WL...

Re: Mid-Michigan Now

It appears that Fox66 may be changing it's name. Go to midmichigannow.com and it brings you to the WSMH web page. Wonder when the new name will take place? Why would they go away from their network affiliation? Doubtful an affiliation change. WFQX was changed to "Local 32" but still has the FOX aff...

I always picked up WCMV. Really odd too, as I lived Mason/Manistee county line, significantly closer to WCMW

IMHO, WTOM should have gone to RF 7 after the 2009 transition (and WLUC should have gone to RF 8)
Why RF 7?

Re: News Fail

Agreed. NBC25/Fox66 has two stations and the fewest employees in the market. Well, three if you count CW46. I don't see why we need a local 24/7/365 news channel. I know there is WMNN in Cadillac, which I guess is doing relatively well. As for number of employees at a station... you don't need 100 ...

Re: TV RF Channel Changes

I still think the WPBN & WTOM changes are absolutely stupid. Ch. 16 should have gone to WPBN, and left WTOM alone with its current Ch. 35. Seems to me that makes more sense, and easier with not having to replace equipment at one site.
