Re: Part time contract engineer opening

Very rare late nights....in a typical year, there there may be 1 unplanned visit after hours. Sometimes it's just easier to go to a complete cold shutdown, but that is often at the decision of the engineers. The equipment is exceptionally stable, and there are 2 discrete transmitters and antennas. A...

Part time contract engineer opening

A contract engineer is needed for two SE Michigan area stations. This opening would be perfect for an retired broadcast engineer looking to keep his finger in the business. It's by no means a full time position, and probably would not be a good fit for someone who is already conventionally employed....

Re: Horrible journalism by the Free Press (shocking, I know)

I've noticed elsewhere, Massachusetts for example, that asphalt surfaced roads have a regular program of refurbishment every few years. Perhaps a benefit of a state sometimes referred to as Taxachussets? Everyone has pet places "The State" could be spending our money. A common denominator is roads....

Re: Horrible journalism by the Free Press (shocking, I know)

I'm certainly no expert in any regard in paving technology, but I do recall reading that the Mackinac Bridge roadway surface, a number of years ago, was a focus of an ongoing study by asphalt industry technical groups. Lots of visits and samples were taken; apparently, it lasted WAY, WAY longer than...

Re: WWV Alert

Interesting thoughts.....I'm very surprised there is enough call for the facilities in general, and would doubt they would do any major improvements like additional sites. I was surprised to see 25 mHz come back....

Re: WWV Alert

to perform some kind of upgrade. AC power upgrade.....7 am to 5 pm max local at the TX. A good opportunity to DX those frequencies for other signals. Good idea...but I bet CONUS will mostly hear 'VH. Outages are not terribly uncommon....there have not been any at 'V since 2014, but 'VH is off quite...

Re: Detroit Pay-TV IT

Didn't it transmit from a location near 8 Mile & Jefferson ? Must've been co-located on a public safety tower of some kind. I remember seeing a map that showed the site practically on the shore of Lake St. Clair. Shore Club. 9 and Jefferson. Known in the boating industry as 'the nine mile tower'. H...

Re: Detroit Pay-TV IT

There was also MORE-TV, which I think just used to rebroadcast HBO? MORE-TV started out on 2.154 GHz MDS (multipoint distribution service) facility as single channel HBO unencrypted. In detoilet, it was first on the Book Building, then moved to the Renaissance Center ca 86-ish. Satellite receive lo...

Hi

The search function also appears to be broken.....I was looking for a post and threw everything at it, and finally even searched for the term "lift" which should show up all over the place....it responds not found to any search.

Re: Will the smooth jazz format ever come back in some form?

Here's my take; YMMV: Smooth jazz is a background format, similar to 'standards' or 'beautiful music'. Listeners, like me, listen to all three as mindless distraction in the background to help relax the workday. None of them lend themselves well to commercial interruptions, nor liners, jocks, or the...

Re: Mike Ilitch dead at 87

Can you substantiate how many casino customers fit that demographic? I have never been in a Detroit Casino so I have no clue. He raises an interesting point....in the strict sense of business, it's acceptable to make money at any legal endeavor, and certainly such casino gambling in Michigan is as ...

Re: Anyone Recall If WBRB Towers Were Ever At Hayes/Hall Roa

I grew up on that corner, long before Lowes. There where no towers there from 1992 through present, just Wok Inn for good Chinese food. Grin.... I know 1992 sounds like a really long time ago, but BRB pulled the big switch about 1990.....it had been on the ropes long before that.....another gent an...

Re: SNL and The Donald

I stopped watching SNL. Sure they always poke fun at political figures. But now that's pretty much all it is now...an agenda driven program. There is definitely more than comedy going on here. I think it's just fanning the flames making the political scene worse. I just don't find them funny anymor...
