Re: What does it take to get banned from this board?
Very interesting discussion, with two distinct and very valid points of view: 1. It's annoying, upsetting, irritating, distracting, and more to be subjected to the foolishness that pervades virtually every thread at some point or another. It's why I left coming up on 2 years ago. There reaches a poi...

Re: WDIV’s Beloved ‘Lottery Lady’ Dies At 79
Funny story. True, too. I was doing afternoons at WNIC, Late 80’s maybe early 90’s. I do remember we were in the old studio in the northwest corner of the building. Autogram console with actual knobs, so this was a long time ago. I gave away something to the proverbial 10th caller and took the call...

I spoke with his wife, and she is doing okay. She's been comforted by an outpouring of support, and commented that he lived life to the fullest. That will be on his headstone.
RIP....he was a good guy, and always interested in helping out a friend.

Re: Part time contract engineer opening
Very rare late nights....in a typical year, there there may be 1 unplanned visit after hours. Sometimes it's just easier to go to a complete cold shutdown, but that is often at the decision of the engineers. The equipment is exceptionally stable, and there are 2 discrete transmitters and antennas. A...

Part time contract engineer opening
A contract engineer is needed for two SE Michigan area stations. This opening would be perfect for an retired broadcast engineer looking to keep his finger in the business. It's by no means a full time position, and probably would not be a good fit for someone who is already conventionally employed....

Re: Horrible journalism by the Free Press (shocking, I know)
I've noticed elsewhere, Massachusetts for example, that asphalt surfaced roads have a regular program of refurbishment every few years. Perhaps a benefit of a state sometimes referred to as Taxachussets? Everyone has pet places "The State" could be spending our money. A common denominator is roads....

Re: Horrible journalism by the Free Press (shocking, I know)
I'm certainly no expert in any regard in paving technology, but I do recall reading that the Mackinac Bridge roadway surface, a number of years ago, was a focus of an ongoing study by asphalt industry technical groups. Lots of visits and samples were taken; apparently, it lasted WAY, WAY longer than...

Hi
The search function also appears to be broken.....I was looking for a post and threw everything at it, and finally even searched for the term "lift" which should show up all over the place....it responds not found to any search.

Can you substantiate how many casino customers fit that demographic? I have never been in a Detroit Casino so I have no clue. He raises an interesting point....in the strict sense of business, it's acceptable to make money at any legal endeavor, and certainly such casino gambling in Michigan is as ...

Re: SNL and The Donald
I stopped watching SNL. Sure they always poke fun at political figures. But now that's pretty much all it is now...an agenda driven program. There is definitely more than comedy going on here. I think it's just fanning the flames making the political scene worse. I just don't find them funny anymor...

Re: Mike Ilitch dead at 87
In the eulogizing of Mr. Ilitch, the crony capitalism-media complex is on full display in this city. The fact of the matter is - he's a businessman. A very adept businessman, and there's nothing wrong with that. I find it admirable, in fact. But let's cut the baloney. He's not a saint. He stiffed t...

Re: Switching to/from another station's signal for network s
WJRT utilized American Microwave to distribute their feed to areas of the northeast LP where there was no ABC affiliate available. I remember them being on the Mackinaw City cable lineup as late as 1977-78. WKAR-TV also used them to reach cable systems as far north as Alpena in the days before CMU ...

Re: Switching to/from another station's signal for network s
American Microwave and Communications Corp had a 6 gig backbone originating on the Penobscot Building in Detroit, going up to (coincidental to your story) their tower just off I75 and Holly Road, then to a facility on Hurley Hospital in Flint, and on up through the state. The route went up through G...

That concept, along with little or no equity (down payment), is pretty much what caused the mortgage meltdown a few years back. Maybe......kinda......sorta..... But what caused the mortgage meltdown, in actuality, is the timeline below. It's not on CNN or the major media, because it's not attractiv...
