Must be a conspiracy…
In all seriousness… a special election to replace a Republican forced to resign over charges related to him using a closet as his address so he could run in that State House district in Alabama netted a massive win for the Democrat in a swing district in who ran on preserving IVF and reproductive rights in general. If there is any doubt about that being an issue that will absolutely destroy the GOP in November let’s reduce that a bit…
This Democrat lost the same seat by 7 in 2022. This district voted for Trump by 2 in 2020. She won this election 63-37. Sure there is some maybe the Republican candidate wasn’t the best. But not a 34 point swings worth. Sure it was a special election but not 34 points worth of wonkiness. There is something to this and it’s evidence of what Biden warned the Supreme Court on… they are about to realize how pissed off people are and how easily they can be gunned up by this issue.
This over performance has happened to many times to be a fluke… I strongly suspect the polls are overstating Trumps strength in general. It wouldn’t make sense to get results like this all over the place and even in surprise spots and benefit everybody but Biden.

Democrats Overperform In An Election Again
Re: Democrats Overperform In An Election Again
People that think Trump had any impact on the pre-covid economy and are justifying a vote for him this time on that basis already voted for him twice. He is shrinking, not growing his voter base.
Voting for Trump is dumber than playing Russian Roulette with fully loaded chambers.

The last three GOP presidents (both Bushes and Trump) have left the economy trashed. Clinton, Obama and Biden have picked up the pieces and had strong economies and it stayed that way. That’s not a fluke.

Presidents have very little to do with the economy.

While that is true to an extent short term the policies they lobby for and things they do in the long term do have an effect. It’s not like they implement economic policies in a bubble. Month to month and week to week you’re right but over 4 or 8 years… yeah there is an effect especially from large spending bills and the like. Despite all of the blather about debt and supposedly those bills hurting things… the opposite has happened repeatedly.Matt wrote: ↑Wed Mar 27, 2024 10:58 amPresidents have very little to do with the economy.
There is also a psychological element to it where the people see action being taken on the economy and then they start to spend because they feel better and it picks up.
