Freep Endorses Kevin Rinke in GOP Governor Race
Freep Endorses Kevin Rinke in GOP Governor Race
https://www.freep.com/story/opinion/con ... edRedesign
But Rinke is described as "the least dangerous choice for Republican voters with no good options in the next month's primary."
The salient point I take from the entire piece is this: "We believe inexperience is as problematic for politicians as it is for auto mechanics, air traffic controllers and heart surgeons. In politics no less than other fields, fortune favors job applicants who have demonstrated an aptitude for the work they aspire to do. The fact that nobody on the GOP gubernatorial ballot has ever presided over a school board meeting, introduced a piece of legislation, or mounted a winning campaign for town council hardly recommends them for the highest political office in the state."

Dr. Soldano has mounted successful campaigns that bypassed the governor's vetoes.

Any chance the Freep put some thought into which GOP candidate they feel has the best (slim) chance to beat Whitmer?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 6:51 am I'm not sure why the Freep felt a need to endorse anyone.
And decided to endorse one of the others?
Re: Freep Endorses Kevin Rinke in GOP Governor Race
You must not have made it to the end of the article. The last two paragraphs of the article, the Freep wrote this: "If we were more reckless, we might encourage Democratic and independent voters to sabotage the GOP primary by voting for a fringe gubernatorial candidate more repellent than Rinke. That's Machiavellian strategy mischievous Democrats have prescribed in other states where election-deniers and anti-vaccine extremists are contending in Republican primaries for important statewide offices. In The Bleachers wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 10:53 amAny chance the Freep put some thought into which GOP candidate they feel has the best (slim) chance to beat Whitmer?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 6:51 am I'm not sure why the Freep felt a need to endorse anyone.

"But that would be a dangerous gamble in a state that has a history of swinging unpredictably between the two parties. So we warily recommend Kevin Rinke as the Republican gubernatorial hopeful least likely to lead his party even deeper into the authoritarian abyss its most extreme elements want to plumb." (emphasis added is mine)
I take that as a sign that the Freep truly thought about the best candidate and chose to endorse that person.

Well the freep typically blindly supports Democrats, so I wouldn't put much stock in what they truly think.MichMash wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 5:14 pmYou must not have made it to the end of the article. Considering that you call damn near every Democrat in office incompetent (and female Democrats cunts), I’ve never really put much stock in your political opinionMatt wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 5:28 pmWell the freep typically blindly supports Democrats, so I wouldn't put much stock in what they truly think.MichMash wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 5:14 pmYou must not have made it to the end of the article. I called Jennifer Granholm a cunt. Your political opinion is whatever your union tells you. It's kind of pathetic.Constant Listener wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 9:29 pmConsidering that you call damn near every Democrat in office incompetent (and female Democrats cunts), I’ve never really put much stock in your political opinionMatt wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 5:28 pmWell the freep typically blindly supports Democrats, so I wouldn't put much stock in what they truly think.MichMash wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 5:14 pmYou must not have made it to the end of the article. The pathetic thing is that you are so damn narrow minded that you think I vote either straight Democratic or as “my Union” tells me. I don’t do either. The county I live in is mostly Republican now and I’ve voted for more than one Republican in the past for county offices (as I usually know the people running personally) as sometimes there is no Democrat running. Furthermore, I’ve been a Democrat long before I became a Union member so you’re wrong on that account also.Matt wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 9:47 pmI called Jennifer Granholm a cunt. I swear, you still act like that little punk kid at U of M from 20+ years ago that believed we should be paying for your education (OMG what a socialist idea).
Re: Freep Endorses Kevin Rinke in GOP Governor Race
I live in Washtenaw - you don't think I vote for Democrats at the county and city level (and for that matter, federal rep)? While it is a joke that city council members are partisan races in Ann Arbor and therefore decided in the August primary, it is the current reality. The current mayor was elected in 2014, and he and his cronies were in the minority faction from 2018-2020 when partisan labels were voted out 7-4. Unfortunately, the mayor vetoed the measure and 8 votes are required to override a veto, and so we are stuck with consequential elections in August.Constant Listener wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 11:54 pmThe pathetic thing is that you are so damn narrow minded that you think I vote either straight Democratic or as “my Union” tells me. At the top of the ticket, I have always voted Republican at the top of the ticket. I will vote third party this year if anyone other than Tudor Dixon is at the top of the ticket. Even in 2020, when I would have been open to voting for a centrist Democrat (which Biden had been until elected), it was clear when he selected his running mate that he was going to be a pushover for the far left.
Finally, I never said that anyone should pay for my education. I said the State of Michigan should invest more in higher education, which is still the case. Granholm frequently targeted higher ed for damaging mid-year cuts due to budget deficits. She was truly an incompetent financial leader. Snyder's first budget cut higher ed significantly but fixed the state's structural deficit issue to the point where mid-year deficits are just not a thing anymore. I believe every Snyder and Whitmer budget after FY12 have NOT cut higher ed and many years there have been increases. As a state, we could certainly do better, but we're in a much better place than we were 12-20 years ago.

Looks like Trump just endorsed DIxon.
Game over.
Game over.
Re: Freep Endorses Kevin Rinke in GOP Governor Race
Rumors have been around for a while that he's been wanting to endorse her. He waited for a few polls to show her with a sizable lead as this was one he absolutely did not want to get wrong if he plans on running in 2024.
