Changing of the Guard at WZZM

Unread post by Sholmes »

Just curious if anyone else is feeling like wccm has picked the replacement for George?

I think Michael Barrens is the one and they.may follow WOOD TV pattern with a graceful exit.

Thoughs?

I hope you’re wrong.

Barrens imo is hard to watch. Gives me bad Kyle Underwood vibes. His on-air presentation is hokey small market. He fits nicely on weekends or whatever.

Great voice, perhaps has the looks best fit for radio, but if "hokey" is your concern, after all we are talking about George Lessons' replacement so "hokey" replacing total cheeseball would still be an upgrade, no?

Solid. You got me there. Haha.

Between WZZMs slide into mediocrity a decade or two ago and WXMIs recent great talent exodus, WOOD has the gravy right now. I think Laura Hartman was a loss to ZZM recently.

Come to think of it, I would watch Berens over that Domol (so?) fellow on WXMI-17.

TV in West Michigan is honestly kind of sad. It’s a good time for WOOD to experiment with retiring Steffen, the competition is far behind.

be realistic. life is turning to shit at these places and the seasoned pros lives are being made impossible to cut salaries and eventually consolidate "local news" in to regional hubs like chicago and detroit. hey, the model worked for radio and tv in the stock holders eyes.

Heard Tenga is selling to Byron Allen. Maybe he will get rid of the public access looking news set 13 looks cheap.

George does a very good job; I hope he sticks around for a while.

It's a bidding war as of now and TEGNA may sell in the next few weeks. My bet is Byron Allen will win as I don't think TEGNA wants to sell to Soo Kim and Standard General with Apolo's help which TEGNA has concerns with Apolo owning Cox Media and overlaps as well. The board's disdain for Soo Kim trying to takeover TEGNA as well.

After reading what they did to Shanna Grove.....nevermind. One has to wonder why the talent has abandoned TV13? Kristin Mazur, Sarah Makuta, all the female weather reporters...so yeah. Never Mind.

Guessing you never spoke to anyone at 13 about their side of the Shanna Grove story? I'm no 13 apologist, but you might want to speak with anyone who ever worked with her (that is when she actually showed up) before taking sides.

13 has had many through the revolving door. Tend to believe Shanna.

Not taking sides but when the sh*t sticks to the wall in plain view it gives one pause doesn't it?
