Re: KITS SF flips
Good riddance.
Live 105.3 / Alt 105.3, for most of its existence, SUCKED.
The station probably would've gone away a lot sooner if CBS Radio / Infinity did not choose to divest 98.5 KOME to remain within station ownership caps. KOME was the superior station and usually outperformed KITS in the consolidated San Francisco market ratings despite being a South Bay-focused signal with a garbage signal in S.F. and an unreliable signal in much of the East Bay.
CBS decided to keep KITS simply by virtue of its location in San Francisco. I wish they would've moved every single programming element of KOME from 98.5 to 105.3.
Even following 104.5 KFOG's demise a year or two ago, 105.3's ratings barely budged. To the contrary, they reached record low or near record low levels in 2020 & 2021.

Morgan Wallen is a piece of garbage.

I'm surprised they didn't consider country, unless they feel that country would do worse on 105.3 than Alt did. The only country station serving any of the San Francisco area, Class A San Jose-based KRTY, was doing about the same share-wise than Alt 105.3 across the entire Bay Area in its last months.

No surprise to me KFOG listeners wouldn't switch to a Billie Eilish-Olivia Rodrigo-Post Malone-Blackbear-Kid Laroi-rinse-repeat playlist. They might as well have switched to KMVQ or KIOI.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 10:22 amGood riddance.

Since the year 2000, Country has been tried on 95.7 FM...twice.I'm surprised they didn't consider country, unless they feel that country would do worse on 105.3 than Alt did. The only country station serving any of the San Francisco area, Class A San Jose-based KRTY, was doing about the same share-wise than Alt 105.3 across the entire Bay Area in its last months.
The first time was under Bonneville ownership. The format performed horrible. Never earned better than low 1's in ages 12+.
The second time was under Entercom ownership. The format initially performed well, generally earning shares in the 2's in ages 12+ to as high as a 3 share. In a market as fragmented and with as many stations as that one, those numbers are respectable. However, during its final year of existence, numbers slipped into the upper 1's and A25-54 share was a little weaker yet.
I think Adult Hits is a safer bet.
