Old TV and Movie Cliches
Old TV and Movie Cliches
Remember some of the old cliches from TV and the movies?
Like when there was an outdoors scene at night, there was always the sound of crickets.
Some of the more memorable tricks were how they showed the passage of time. Sometimes, it was a clock on the wall with the hands spinning around rapidly. Or pages flying off a calendar. Or there was the view from a window showing the successive changing of the seasons.
Any others come to mind?

I don't mean to brag, but I just put a puzzle together in 1 day and the box said 2-4 years.
Re: Old TV and Movie Cliches
A car chase that ends with a fruit cart being demolished.
When someone is watching TV a western is on, (you can hear bugles and war whoops.)
During the last scene of a TV series that last shot is one of people walking out a door.
The killer who you think is really dead makes one final attack.
Nearly every Lifetime Movie ends with someone waving a gun / knife around, and or someone tied to a chair.
A flashback scene that is cued by harp music.

Dreams too.A flashback scene that is cued by harp music.
Also, on the family TV shows. Father and Mother always slept in the same room together, but never in the same bed and never with the lights out. They would each get into their twin beds, sit up for awhile and talk about the days events. Then they would pull blindfolds down over their eyes, lay down and go to sleep.

Whenever the monster appears, a beautiful woman will attempt to run away, but she'll fall down and be the next victim.
Re: Old TV and Movie Cliches
When chronicling the life or career of some famous or notorious person, they would often show newspapers flying out of the press with headlines showing the persons latest exploits or achievements.

•When someone on foot is being chased down a road by a car, they always run in the same direction ahead of the chaser, rather than veering off the road, to just get the hell out of the way.
•Any scene in a jungle will include the sound of a kookaburra bird (which is Australian, and does not live in jungles, anywhere)
•There will be a woman on a safari or a hike, wearing high heels. She will eventually twist her ankle and have to be carried, especially when they need, again, to just get the hell out of there.

Sleeping overnight in a spooky house, there was always the wind scratching a tree branch against the window.

Re: Old TV and Movie Cliches
A minor detail introduced in the early part of the movie will turn into a crucial part of the end of it. Here's an example. Early in the film we find out the Villain has a peanut allergy. At the end of the movie the trapped heroine gets away by excusing herself to put on some sexy, finding some Planters in the kitchen, coming back and giving the him a poisonous kiss. (I saw this on a Lifetime movie last month.)

Graveyards after dark were always foggy.

A spinning wheel on a car always squealed, even on a dirt road.

Landing airplanes' tires all make the same identical screech on contact with the runway.
Re: Old TV and Movie Cliches
This isn't an old cliche, it has come into use over the past few years.
When a scene in a movie depicts something that happened a long time ago, like 1950s, they film that scene in black and white. It's like the world didn't exist in colour before 1960.
