Questionable music choices at 106.7 Fake Wheels

Post by MWmetalhead » Sat Apr 13, 2019 7:37 am

Am I the only one who finds it odd that "The MIddle" by Jimmy Eat World receives regular airplay yet great 90's songs and early 00's hits by various bands who'd likely fit the station's sound better - Blues Traveler, the Wallflowers, Dave Matthews Band - have no slot in the 106.7 Fake Wheels music rotation?

Also, the lack of song selection from the Foo Fighters - one of the biggest bands of the past 25 years - is very disappointing.

Hopefully Dave Matthews Band never shows up on the station. Their music is a poor fit, besides the fact they are awful.

The other I agree should be in the playlist in some capacity.

Foo Fighters should be a cornerstone of this station. Unless they start to lean into that "active rock" lean we discussed weeks back.

"What Would You Say" is the only song of theirs I had in mind.

I prefer the format 106 had a few years ago when they said "we play everything". Too much hair band music that I was never big on. If I have Sirius, my goto station is Lithium, that is the classic grunge from 90's that I like. If they had 40% that, 30% 80's, 20% classic rewind, and 10% First Wave, you could have a great mix. When wcsx plays more 80's new wave than you, there is a problem.

Count me in - I'm right there with ya.

I really enjoy Lithium, too, on SXM. I also like Ozzy's Boneyard, which IMO is the type of sound 106.7 ought to strive for.

I just came back from a long cross country trip. You would be amazed how many great classic rock stations exist- almost all of them in smaller markets, and probably locally or regionally owned.

Coming back to Detroit, it seems the station hasn’t changed much at all. I can’t wait to see the first ratings period.

It's a fine song; I just don't think it fits on 106.7.

How does the playlist work? I'm clueless as to how a PD determines what is aired. It is by gut, algorhythm or is it just who holds the artist's contract?

I'm pretty sure I heard "The Middle" on WIOT recently as well. Maybe it's on the Premium Choice playlist? Seems like a very odd choice for a Mainstream Rock or Classic Rock station - way too pop. When I heard it on WIOT, I had to double check to make sure I wasn't listening to WDVD or CIDR.

I was just farting around on my YouTube channel and listened to video I posted of a concert promo, well after they became modern rock and "Today's Wheels". It was for David Bowie and NIN. Here is a supposed modern rock station, promoting a new song from an artist entering his 30th year of recording, and playing it as part of a contest. How come we don't hear things like that anymore? Granted, Wheels was on it's last leg at that point and playing "December" by Collective Soul every 5th song, but there's no artist promotion like that anymore.

I wish 106.7 would stop playing that f*cking awful Night Ranger song, "Sister Christian."

That song is too sappy even for WOMC to play!!!

You wanna play Night Ranger? Gimme "Don't Tell Me You Love Me". At least that one moves!
